TAGT Scholarships and Grants
We encourage you to apply for a summer scholarship for a child or for yourself.  Students applicants in public schools must be currently identified as gifted and participating in a gifted program. Students in private schools or home-schools may be eligible to apply. Those parents should contact the TAGT Associate Director for additional information.

Summer Opportunities for Students
Below are listed opportunities relatively free to high school students. You will have to check each site, but most are for current 10th and 11th grade students and cover all expenses except for transportation. Please take a few minutes to check out these sites and contact students at your campus that might be candidates. What an opportunity for our students!!!  All are still seeking students, but enrollment is limited.

●  The Texas Governor's School in Science and Technology (UNT, Denton)

●  Texas Governor's School in Arts and Humanities for Urban Leadership (Texas A&M College Station)

●  GATE: Governor's Academy for Teaching Excellence  (Texas A&M Corpus Christi)

Summer PSAT/SAT Preparation Course
The Summer PSAT/SAT preparation course is designed to teach students techniques and strategies for answering questions on the verbal, written and math sections of the PSAT and SAT.  The Summer PSAT/SAT preparation course for high school students is designed to begin to prepare students for the National Merit Scholarship Program (PSAT/NMSQT) as well as the SAT. Students will also receive and work using the resource, The Official SAT Study Guide:  For the New SAT as well as other technological support including the SAT Online Course.
Pre-AP and AP Summer Institutes for Teachers
Pre-AP and AP Summer Institutes are being offered this summer.  Teachers who are being assigned AP during the 2009-2010 school year for the FIRST time are required by the district to complete the 5 day training this summer.
Any teacher who is assigned Pre-AP or AP for the 2009-2010 school year MAY attend. All expenses are at the cost of the district and all registration must go through the GT office and its secretary, Toni Morales. Please follow the checklist guidelines so that your registration can be handled in a timely manner.

Why AP?
This 16 minute CollegeBoard Documentary Film AP 50 Years: Higher Standards, Higher Learning is ideal for raising the awareness of AP courses and their benefits for students, parents, and faculty members. The voices of college admission officers, principals, superintendents, teachers and students from a variety of school types provide an overview of the benefits of participation in AP, give details about how the AP courses and exams are developed and scored, and share the stories of students whose true academic potential has been uncovered through participation in AP.
