Procedures

Transfers Transfer
students will be included with all other students in the ongoing process of
identification. Transfer students may nominated on the same basis as other
students within the district and with the same identification procedures.
Students new to the district who have been in a G/T program in another district
must meet IISD identification criteria to be placed in an IISD gifted and
talented program.

from the G/T Program (19 TAC 89.51 (a) and (e) Students may withdraw from the
Gifted and Talented Program at any time during the school year. Reasons
for exit may include student personal or social stresses that prevent
self-satisfying student performance. Each situation will be reviewed individually.

Furlough
Status In some extenuating circumstances,
it may be deemed by the Exit Committee to be in the best interests of the
student to remove the student from the G/T Program temporarily for part of a
semester, or a year, without fully exiting the program. This may be for
reasons if illness, family or emotional, peer conflicts or other problems for
which the student feels incapable of continuing in the G/T program at the
present time, but which are reasonably expected to be resolved within a period
of time after which the student wish to continue in the G/T Program.
When
this is agreed to be the case, the Exit Committee may vote to grant a
"furlough" status for a specific period of time. This should be
noted in the student's G/T records and the student should not be withdrawn from
the G/T Program. However, the student's class schedule may be changed if
necessary and the student may be placed in another class and not attend the G/T
class for the period of the furlough.
