The Ninth Annual Irving Celebration of Excellence (ICE) Awards, scheduled for Thursday, February 26, recognizes the ongoing hard work and dedication of Irving ISD schools, faculty and students. Hosted this year at Nimitz High School, a reception at 6:15 p.m. in the cafeteria will kick-off the event with the awards assembly beginning at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The ICE Awards will be hosted this year by Steve Blow, columnist for The Dallas Morning News. Blow joined the newspaper as a reporter in 1978 and has written a popular column on the Metropolitan page of The Dallas Morning News since 1989. Before joining The News, Blow worked as a reporter at the now-departed Fort Worth Press and at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. Blow’s columns have been named the best in the state by the Dallas Press Club, the Headliners Club of Austin, and the Associated Press. Both the editors and readers of The Dallas Observer have named his column the best in Dallas. Blow received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of North Texas. The Irving ISD Board of Trustees will also present their esteemed Golden Apple Awards during the ceremony. Selected by the Board from open nominations, Golden Apples are given to honor individuals and groups who have set new standards in service to Irving ISD. The Irving All-City Jazz Band, as well as students named to All-City and All-Region performing groups will provide musical entertainment. A complete list of ICE Awards finalists is attached. |
