Audio/Visual Resources
We have four sources for A/V: our own section of the library, other schools in
Irving, the Ratteree, also called Learning Resources), and the Internet. I’d
love to help you learn how to use any of these resources. The IISD website now
has two great websites to help you locate AV resources.
Don’t forget- before you show a video, fill out the permission form and submit
it to the librarian.
Videostreaming
We have sources with a paid subscription for videos as well as sources of free
videos. They are all conveniently linked to the
district’s videostreaming
homepage. If you need passwords, I can help you, as well as with training on
these resources. Videos can be saved to your laptop and shown using your
projector, but since they are big files, I don’t recommend more than one at a
time. Please note the copyright and time restrictions for using these videos. I
also have a packet of instructions for using videostreaming if you’d like one.
There are lots of things available on the Internet, but it’s not always ethical
to use it for classroom teaching. Hence one reason for the video permission
form.
E-Books
Wow has this resource grown! We are purchasing individual titles from Follett
and Gale, some of which can check out to one person at a time for 3 days, and
some of which are available to multiple users. Some can be downloaded, but due
to the limited checkout, I wouldn’t do this too far in advance! There are a
variety of other places offering e-books for free, but often with limitations,
so it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with all of this before you use one.
The district has a special
new page for online
books, so check it out! Also, we now have 10 e-book readers with a selection
of 100 downloadable e-book classics for use on them.
