Welcome

             This handbook contains our policies and procedures in an easy-to-reference form, which is now being stored online.  I look forward to working with all of you this year!

IDs

            The barcodes on the ID’s work in the library. Please remind your students to bring IDs to the library to help expedite checkout! I will make them on a daily basis for the first few weeks, but then only on specially designated days twice a month. Students can pay for replacements in the office and they will receive a receipt. The ID will be given to them during their lunchtime after it has been made.

Book Requests

            Feel free to come in any time to look for resources on any topic for which you need information. I am also available to help you locate things and can get additional resources from the other libraries with some advance notice.  If you know of specific titles or subject areas for which we need more resources, let me know as soon as possible.  I take this into consideration as I order throughout the year. Your opinion is VERY important to me- if I don’t have the books you need, you might not use the library!

Advisory SSR

        Sustained Silent Reading will be held at least twice a week during den time. Enclosed is a helpful sheet with information on tips and benefits. A literacy rich environment will raise test scores and convince our students that reading is a natural part of life. In order to support SSR, please enforce silent reading and model by reading something yourself. I’ve got lots of things I can suggest for you! It will also be very beneficial if you can provide books in your classroom to support SSR. I would love to help you pick out some books your students might enjoy reading that you can check out. If a student gets interested in a book and wants to take it home, you can just write their name and ID # and email me the book title and the barcode.

Faculty Book Collection

            YOU should always have something to read, so come by and check this out if you are bookless. The sign out sheet is still there, on a clipboard. If you will write down the number of the book you get with your name and the date, we can prevent loss hopefully! Please don’t forget to mark it when something is returned- it saves me a lot of time! Make sure you’ve got something for SSR!

Workroom

            Feel free to use our upstairs workroom. This is what we’ve got: Accu-cut machines and foam die cut forms, laminator, poster maker, paper cutter, construction paper of various colors, large colored paper rolls, AV collection, professional collection, and don’t forget the kitchen!  HOWEVER, this is not a room for student use for many reasons. They are not allowed in there without a teacher present. Please do not send them to get paper from the large rolls because they have a tendency to waste it, especially not being able to decide exactly what is needed. I can only help sometimes, so my assistance can’t be relied upon. For our new, expensive and sensitive laminator, there is a separate set of guidelines you can look over. PLEASE always clean up after yourself! Yolanda and I are too busy with the “public” part of the library to clean back there.

            Not a fun topic, huh? Well, wait till you see the copyright video of choice this year!! Also check out my enclosed handout The Essential Copyright Information to remind yourself of some of the basics. Always feel free to ask me about any copyright related question. I may not know the answer, but I’ve got a wealth of experts available via email.
