Building a Library for Every IISD Student

Mission

The mission of the Friends of Irving School Libraries is to encourage and facilitate children’s reading throughout the community, to instill a passion for books, and to prepare our students to become information literate lifelong learners.

The Role of Friends of Irving School Libraries

•  To build a home library for every student.

•  To promote and advocate school libraries through special events, fundraising, and programs.

•  To build relationships with community partners, sponsors, parents, and students.

•  To educate the community about the importance of growing readers.

The Importance of Home

“The home has an important role in fostering literacy. Access to home educational resources such as books, as well as parents/caregivers engagement with reading and their own attitudes to reading, all play a role in supporting a child’s enjoyment of reading.”
