 The Friends of
Irving School Libraries (FISL) undertook an ambitious campaign
in February 2005 to start building the personal libraries of every
student in Irving ISD schools. The group, formed by IISD
librarians, parents and literacy advocates, held a city-wide book campaign, collecting new books from
local businesses and the general public.
 Coinciding with National Booklovers’ Month, the campaign asked
Irving businesses and residents to donate one of five targeted titles to
ensure that every student in selected grades owned a new copy of
a quality children’s literary work of their own.

Thanks to the many
donations and memberships, 1,541 graduating seniors were
presented a brand new copy of Oh, The Places You'll Go by
Dr. Seuss
