    Bad Dog Max!

by

Marina Windsor

Bad Dog Max is a simply written book which makes it great for young readers.  Repetitive text helps children improve word recognition.

Even though the text rarely describes the bad behavior of Max, the illustrations leave little doubt as to the mischievousness of the dog.

Marina Windsor accurately catches the true nature of disobedient dogs and offers a viable solution to the problem by taking the dog to the vet.  The vet gives excellent advice for the pet owners which, when carried out seems to minimize the dog's mischievous behavior.  Realistically portrayed, love for the dog provides encouragement and acceptance for Max.

This book can be a great resource for discussing good and bad behavior as well as looking for appropriate solutions to problems.

Froggy's Baby Sister

by

Jonathan London

Jonathan London cleverly captures the frustration of impatience throughout the book.  First, Froggy has to await the arrival of a new sibling.  The dream of having a brother was soon replaced by the reality of a new baby sister.

After having waited for the birth of his new sister, Froggy waits impatiently for Pollywogilina to grow up enough to play.

London uses frogs to portray/describe human characteristics and feelings.  The book is excellent for helping brothers and sisters learn about new siblings “on the way.”
