  • Are you interested in learning how to build houses, wire electricity in a house, plumbing, air conditioning or anything related to construction?  If you are and you are currently in 10th or 11th grade, stop by and ask your counselor about our new course: building trades.

  • The last student council meeting of the year is today at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.  We will be discussing Automobile Safety Week, Spring Fever Week and Fish Camp.  Everyone is welcome to come.

  • Attention seniors – If you have been offered any scholarships, even if you have chosen not to accept them, please list them on the yellow form on the back of the last senior newsletter and turn it in to the counseling office.  We list all the students’ names that have been offered scholarships in the senior program.

  • Union Bower Center for Learning is having a fair Tuesday, May 13, 5:00-7:00 p.m. to introduce their new career programs for 2008-2009.  UBCL will offer career houses in automotive specialization, cosmetology, technical health services, child development & education and applied technology.  Come out Tuesday evening or see www.irvingisd.net/ubclredesign/ for more information..

  • If you are a Senior Ring participant, you must be at the mandatory practices Tuesday and Thursday of this week from 4 p.m.-6 p.m.  If you are not there, you will not be in Senior Ring.  

  • Textbooks:

    • If you are finished with any of your textbooks, you can return them to room 112 at any time. There will be a cart near the office for drop-offs.  Please have your name written inside the book. If you want a receipt for your returned books, you must turn them in directly to Mr. Evans.

    • If you are going to attend summer school, all textbooks must be returned and all fines cleared.

    • Seniors: you must have all books returned and all fines cleared by May 30 if you are participating in the graduation ceremony.

  • There is an IISD graduate job fair, May 15, Thursday 3-5. Come by MacArthur Church of Christ fellowship center. For more information, call 972-215-5017 or visit www.irvingisd.net/ppage/GraduateJobFair.htm. Many companies will be looking to interview you!

  • Do you walk to the beat of a different drum? The Trash Can Corps may be for you. The TCC will be hosting tryouts for next year’s group this Thursday and Friday after school out on the football field.  Anyone interested in trying out needs to come by room 247 for more info and to sign up.

  • Anyone who is interested in being a manager for the football team next year please contact Coach Basil.  You will help with video taping games and practices, assist with video editing, and help chart offensive and defensive plays during games.  You will also have the opportunity to earn a varsity letter jacket.

  • Any student interested in trying out for next year’s MacArthur gymnastics teams needs to attend the tryout session Wednesday, May 14th, 4:15 p.m. at the Irving Gymnastics Center located behind Irving High School.  If you cannot make the tryout session, you must contact Coach Cochran in room 116.

  • Automobile Safety Week:

    • Motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer of teens in the U.S. with nearly 6,000 teens killed every year and more than 300,000 injured.

    • The deadliest days for teen drivers are the 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

    • Driver error and speeding are the main causes of teen driving fatalities. Driver error contributes to 87 percent of teen accidents both fatal and non-fatal.

    • Simple activities such as talking on a cell phone, texting, switching radio stations or interacting with friends can significantly impair a teen’s ability to react quickly to changing traffic conditions.

    • When driving be sure to focus on the road.

  • Any National Honor Society senior member who is lacking the 10 hours of community service specific for MacArthur/NHS service can come by room 213 for an assignment to complete this requirement.  If you, as an NHS senior member, are lacking in any of these areas, please take care of your obligation before May 15.

  • Do you think you might have perfect attendance?  Then stop by the attendance office to verify it so you can be recognized at the awards assembly.

  • Seniors, if you attended MC Lively elementary for at least 4 years, you may apply for their PTA scholarship.  Please come by the counseling office to pick up an application.  The completed application must be returned to the Mac counseling office by 4:00 p.m. May 14th.

  • Today is the last day to buy your prom ticket.  You better hurry as they are only on sale during lunch. Remember to see Ms. Riley today during lunch! 

  • And if you haven’t bought your After Prom ticket yet, you can still buy it at the door, but you will have to pay $25 in cash.  Remember it’s at Speed Zone 1:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.  It will be a blast!

  • The baseball team would like to thank everyone for their support this season. The fan support at the playoff game last Friday night was unbelievable.  We are extremely proud of our players and their success this year.

  • Seniors, if you attended MC Lively Elementary for at least 4 years, you may apply for their PTA scholarship.  Please come by the counseling office to pick up an application.  The completed application must be returned to the Mac counseling office by 4:00 p.m. May 14th.

  • Prom tickets are on sale during all 4 lunches through tomorrow.  Ms. Riley will sell tickets during that time only.  Seniors are $15.00.  Tickets for anyone who is not a MacArthur senior are  $35. Maps and picture information for prom will be at Ms. Vail’s reception desk all week.

  • Buy your After Prom ticket also:

    • Well, did you buy your after prom ticket?

    • Uhhhh, I forgot!

    • You can still buy one at the door for $25, but you have to pay in cash at the door!

    • At least I can still go.  And once again, where is it?

    • At Speed Zone, After Prom, 1:00-6:00 a.m.  It’s going to be fun!!!

  • The next SADD meeting is today. Members if you receive an email from Ms. Cowen then you must attend…no exceptions!!   There is also a mandatory parent/student meeting on Tuesday, May 13.  We must have 100% participation on both of these days.  These are the final two whole group meetings to plan Shattered Dreams.  See you there!

  • Extra yearbooks are almost gone! Secure yours today with Mrs. Greene in room 190! The price is $65, so get yours before they run out. There is no guarantee that there will be any left when the yearbook returns. If there are, the price is increased to $85! See Mrs. Greene ASAP!

  • Prom tickets are on sale during all four lunches through May 9.  Ms. Riley will sell tickets during that time only.  Seniors are $15.00.  Tickets for anyone who is not a MacArthur senior are  $35. Maps and picture information for prom will be at Ms. Vail’s reception desk all week.

  • After Prom:

    • Hey Courtney, have you bought your after prom ticket yet?

    • After what?

    • After prom! You know, the thing that’s after prom at Speed Zone from 1 to 6 a.m. with all the amazing prizes.

    • Wow that’s really cool, where can I get one?

    • Well, they are selling them during all 4 lunches today for $20 each. But if you wait to get them at the door, the price goes up to $25 each! So get it now!

  • Seniors, if you have a lost textbook, it must be paid by May 8th in order for you to attend prom. To participate in the graduation ceremonies you must be clear of all fines (textbooks, library books, school or athletic equipment) by Friday, May 30th. You may turn in any textbooks that you are finished with in room 112 at any time from now until May 30th.

  • If you are interested in running cross country next year, there will be a short meeting on Wednesday, May 7th at 4:00 in Portable 11. We will discuss summer workouts and schedules. This meeting is for new and returning runners, both boys and girls.  If you cannot make the meeting, please see Coach Alonzo before or after school in Portable 11.

  • Attention all freshman and sophomore 2007-2008 class officers and sophomore & junior class officers of 2008-2009.  We will have a meeting about the class awards ceremony Thursday, May 8 at 7:45 a.m. in room 218.  Please get a pass to come from your English teachers.  If you cannot make it, please see Ms. Reed in room 218 or Ms. Gluck in Portable 8.
