Attention: High School Girls

Application Deadline:  March 28, 2008

The Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin will host First Bytes Version 6.0 Summer Computer Science Camp – a free one-week residential program for high school girls designed to dispel myths about computer science and intrigue young women with the potential of computing and the excitement of problem solving.

First Bytes:  What is it?

  • A residential camp program, July 20-26, 2008 held on the campus of UT-Austin.
  • Target students:  50 current sophomore and junior women from Texas
  • All expenses paid (with the exception of travel to and from UT-Austin)

Who Should Apply?  We Need Young Women . . .

  • Who are completing their sophomore or junior year in high school
  • Have done well in math and science classes
  • Maintain at 3.0 GPA (80 out of 100)
  • Advanced math or prior programming experience is NOT required.

This interactive experience will offer classes, lectures and labs designed and taught by the University of Texas at Austin’s world-class faculty.  The participants will have hands-on programming experience leading to the completion of a team-based project while enjoying the camaraderie of university campus-life.  We will have a number of speakers, games, and field trips as well as time to relax and enjoy new friends.
