918 Title: SAW I.D. Badge Category: video max90sec Grade Level: 11-12 Description: When the mandatory I.D. Badge movement started at Nimitz, second period Viking View felt that we needed to make a video about the extreme push for wearing our I.D. badges. The video was to air on Halloween, so we decided to spoof the famous horror movie franchise, "SAW." First, we wrote out a script and created a story board to have a good idea of the shots we were going to shoot. Once we had that, we searched for a set. We ended up in a small restroom in the corner of the school. Our school's security guard, well known around campus for checking if we had our badges on, was chosen as the villain of the film. Once we had a good script, storyboard, actors, and setting, we began to shoot our film. Some of the team, having never shot a movie before, took this opportunity to learn the rules of film as well as how to direct, and edit one together. We wanted each shot to tell a story, so that we could convey a better story. Using one of the school cameras, we incorporated the rule of eights as well as other film rules. We decided that inserts would make the movie unique and different than what anyone in the school had seen, so we used the environment to our advantage. Once we were finished filming, we went back to our room and used our firewire cable to upload the videos onto our laptops. Now it was time to edit the piece together using Windows Media Movie Maker. Because of awkward silences on the film, voice overs were heavily used in the movie to make it sound better. Knowing that many of the school's population has seen the SAW movies, we really wanted it to be edited so that it looked and felt like a SAW movie. Overlapping sounds and voices was a challenge in this film, but once it was done, we learned a lot when it came to music, film, and sound editing. |

Fun video! Use of opening title and ending credits would be nice to enhance the experience. Also, during the video, there is no explanation of why the victim was trapped except when the officer walks out. I might be good to make the purpose of his situation more clear. Very creative video and good job tying in the SAW feel. |

This was a well developed storyline. It was humourous and very creative. Be sure to include a billboard or title element in your next project. |
