Advice for College Trio Upward Bound

Nimitz Prepares Students for College
Nimitz High School prepares students for the rigors of college with its excellent choice of courses, caring teachers, and college savvy counselors. With all this within reach, every student at Nimitz High School has equal opportunity to pursue a higher education. With Nimitz alumni across the nation studying at schools from coast to coast, Nimitz is truly giving its college bound students a chance to shoot for the stars.

Nimitz senior, Emarric Z. says, “I feel that Nimitz has given me something that I feel other schools could not offer.” Indeed, the numerous academic achievements combined with a reputation of perseverance have brought Nimitz great success. The school’s triumphs have been reflected through its prominence in the district - through its AP scores (which gives students college credit), and the high percentage of students looking forward to a secondary education.

College Preparation
Indeed, while the Nimitz experience is outstanding preparation for college life, the Nimitz counselors deserve the highest praise for their diligent work in keeping the students informed about deadlines and scholarships, and doing their best to help Nimitz’s students get accepted to wherever they want to go. Without question, Nimitz’s counseling staff of Ms. Bowling, Ms. Sisco, Ms. Polk, Ms. Clancy, Ms. Rippel, and Ms. Hamilton is a force to be reckoned with. Former Nimitz alum and current Harvard student Jeremiah G. specifically thanks his counselor for her involved role in his college admission process, stating simply that, “I couldn’t have done it without her.”

Nimitz’s Amazing Teaching Staff
Nimitz is also blessed with an amazing teaching staff, who encourage and test their students thoroughly to ensure their collegiate success. AP English teacher Carey Christenberry believes that “preparing these kids for college is my most important job,” and the results on the AP English Language exam verify his work to achieve this belief. Senior Olivia F. says, “My teachers definitely don’t take it easy on me (laughs), but because of them, I feel ready for anything college has to throw at me.”

What’s College Compared to Nimitz?
With former students at colleges in California, Maine, and everywhere in between, the preparation for college that students receive at Nimitz High School is unparalleled. Chuckling, UT student Matthew G. says that, “After all those difficult AP classes and being in Academic Decathlon at Nimitz, college seems easier than high school was!” Matthew is hardly alone, as many Nimitz alumni echo the same sentiment about Nimitz and their college experiences. But even when college does prove to be a sterner challenge than high school was, Nimitz still prepared them well for these stiff challenges. Whether it is the talented students, fantastic teachers, the amazing counseling staff, or a combination of all of these together – Nimitz is undoubtedly ready for the college world.
