60 Minutes Newscast

Objective:  Students will be researching certain decades to incorporate in their newscast. They will be taking notes, writing & recording speeches, researching pictures and videos as well as putting an entire newscast together through Movie Maker.

Procedure:
1.  The students will begin with learning how to create note cards through research. Show them what is expected by showing the presentation about note cards.
2.  Using the Practice Note Card Assignment, have them do 2 practice notecards. For one, you will find the information from chapter 16 of the textbook. For the other, you will find the information from the Death Came in the Water article
3.  Once they have completed and turned in that assignment, they will need to decide, based on their assigned time period, what their two informative speeches are going to be about.
4.  Students will then begin researching those topics, creating 10 note cards per speech.
5.  Once they have completed all 20 note cards, they will need to use the information that they have found to help them write their informative speeches using the Informative Speech Outline.
6. Once all group members have completed their speeches, they will need to record them, using either Audacity or Movie Maker. Every group member will have 2 speeches included.
7.  The students will then search for pictures that flow with the topic of their speeches to insert in their presentation.
8.  Groups also must find commercials from their time period to include in the final product.
9.  As a group they will also be required to create at least three public service announcements to incorporate into the final product (handout given).
10.  Groups must write lead-ins to each speech and using movie maker, put the entire project together.
