Lesson Description
A Separate Peace: A Teenager Experiences World War II Students work together in groups to review facts about World War II so they can empathize with characters in A Separate Peace and more fully understand their situations.  In addition to what's stated on the website, teachers could have students present the information to the class.
Graffiti Wall This five-day lesson is used for discussion of a novel read by the whole class. Working individually and in groups, using symbols, drawings, shapes, and colors, alongside words and quotations, students construct a graphic of their section of the novel using an online tool and on newsprint or butcher paper with crayons or markers. When all groups have completed their graphics, they will present them to the class, explaining why they chose the elements they used. Finished graphics can be displayed on a class bulletin board, on walls, or on a Web page. Finally, students will write an individual essay analyzing one element of the novel.

The website gives you a link to a Shockwave application, but students can do the same thing on their Paint.net application that is already on their computer, and students do not need to install extra software.

Huck Finn (Emancipation Theme) Help students further their knowledge of historical fiction and writing by using research skills.
