Shooting an Elephant
Objective: Students will interpret character motives, be able to predict character actions, see the relation of setting to plot and theme, and understand how the narrator’s point of view contributes to the reader’s understanding of character, plot, and meaning.
Procedure:
1. Students will find information on the internet about Burma in the 1880s, paying close attention to the politics and the people.
As they research and cite the web sites that are used.
2. Find a biography of George Orwell and compare how his experiences in Burma with the British government
might have influenced, or not, his short narrative.
3. Read
Shooting an Elephant and respond to the
Shooting an Elephant Questions, using all of the correct and formal writing applications.
