Eleven

Objective:  Students will identify character, setting, conflict, and resolution in the story, "Eleven."  They will be asked to empathize with the character, and compare/contrast how they would respond in the same situation.

Procedure:  
1.  The teacher shows the presentation on literary concepts.
2.  Students take notes from the presentation on their laptops or on paper.
3.  Students access the short story, "Eleven," on the winning4kids website.
4.  Read the story aloud.
5.  Students access the story maps website and answer questions.
6.  Students access the Thinking Maps software on their laptops and create compare/contrast situations.  They will be asked to relate "why" they would react the way they do.
 

Assessment:  
Teacher will assess student's descriptions of character and setting.
Teacher will determine if students were able to recognize the conflict and resolution of the story.
Teacher will assess the student's thinking map to see if students have a clear understanding of compare/contrast.
