Students will get an overview of the vast
continent of Africa and the differences and similarities between life
here and there. |

Students will be able to identify and locate physical
features and key terms in Africa. They will be able to navigate Google
Earth and understand the relationships between all of the designated
features of Africa. |

The Spread of the Bantu Language |
Students will compare the spread of the Bantu language to
the spread of other languages. They will be able to navigate Google
Earth. |

Mapping the Triangular Trade |
Students will discover the basic facts
and the impact of the triangular trade. They will be
able to navigate Google Earth and understand the
relationships between all of the designated features of
Africa. |

Aids in Africa |
Students will explore data and statistics regarding AIDS
around the world and specifically sub-Saharan Africa. |

Africa: The Continent Unknown to Many |
Students will create a video news documentary about Africa. |
|
Famous African Brochure |
Students will select a famous African (living or dead), and research why the person is famous, what he/she has accomplished, any conflicts he/she has been involved in & what the connection to a country in Africa is. The lesson says to use Microsoft Publisher, but students could use any word processing software to complete the project. |

Africa Today |
Students will use what they learned in the program to discuss how children in Africa are affected by AIDS, read an article or Web site on this topic and analyze and summarize what they learned, and
create a small poster inspired by the article, including images, excerpts, data, and quotes.
