The Nimitz Fine
Arts Team
The Nimitz Fine Arts programs have burgeoned in the past few years. From
the blaring sound of the Nimitz Band and the sonorous strings of the
Orchestra, to the stage presence of the Theatre and the euphony of the
Choir, the fine arts at Nimitz offers a wide variety of activities to be
involved in. “I love being in fine arts. Not only do we do our own
thing, but we also participate in many of the other groups’ activities,”
says Chris R., a junior who starred in this year’s musical The
Adventures of Tom Sawyer. With the help of the choir, the musical
was the best yet at Nimitz.
Nimitz Choir
The Nimitz choir is conducted by Mr. Jones, a new teacher at Nimitz, who
is making excellent progress as the year moves on. The choir will be
hosting its annual Madrigal dinner this Christmas season, and it is sure
to be a memorable one. “Singing is the most fulfilling thing that I can
do. I love it. I even sing when walking in between classes,” says
Stephanie S., a senior at Nimitz and member of the Theatre’s Thespian
Society troupe.
Nimitz Drama
What started as a humble dramatic troupe has turned into a full fledge
production company! The Nimitz Thespian Society boasts a proud 30
members. Drama is taught by Mr. Hermans, who is quickly turning Nimitz
Drama into a name that all schools will recognize. Mr. Hermans has begun
taking students to one-act competitions around the area, and the kids
are making a phenomenal showing. “I’m honored to be a part of something
as wonderful as the Nimitz drama,” beams Natalie, senior at Nimitz and a
drum major for the Nimitz band.
Nimitz Band
The band, which now has two separate classes to hold its impressive
numbers, has been winning competitions left and right. Under the
direction of Dr. Smith, the band leads the way during all halftime
performances during the football season. When spring rolls around, the
Band starts preparing for its concert season so it can astound people
with its repertoire of music.
Nimitz Orchestra
The orchestra also joins the festivities and keeps the classics alive
with their spring time concert. Led by Ms. Maletic, the orchestra has
attended and been part of numerous performances across the country, like
in Branson, Missouri last year.
The Future of
Nimitz's Fine Arts Programs
The fine arts here at Nimitz includes an impressive bunch, and will
continue to grow in size and prestige as the wonderful teachers keep
allowing students to work at their full potential.
