The Nimitz Viking Way
Leadership. Commitment. Pride. Determination. Upholding a classy reputation.
Nimitz High School’s sports teams show these qualities, tinted in
silver and blue. The Vikings are turning their programs around.
Nimitz houses, or locker-rooms, both male and female sports:
football, volleyball, cross country, basketball, soccer, tennis,
baseball, softball, swimming, golf, hockey, and track and field.
With yearly newcomers and with rising support, the NHS chants are
becoming more familiar to surrounding ears. Such spirit has spawned
a new student-athletes club -- the Nimitz athELITE. President
Lindsey D. states, “This new organization is a great idea in getting
more school spirit and pride.” Secretary Emily C. agrees,
commenting, “It is so exciting seeing athletes uniting and wanting
to prove to everyone else that we can be successful; if not
successful, then we can still be supportive…and be loud in doing
so.”
Power Is In The Numbers
In Texas, high school football has enough effect to shut towns down on
Friday night. Coach Hohenberger, in his second year as head coach, has already
displayed how badly he wants to turn the athletic reputation of Nimitz around.
Moving In The Right
Direction
Coach Smith of Varsity Cross Country and Varsity Softball, when asked to
describe Nimitz Athletics, states, “We are moving in a very positive direction
and all of the coaches are very encouraging. I don’t know of one negative coach
on staff this year.” Not only do the athletes believe in the silver and blue,
but so do the students. Seniors Colin W. and Alex S. both agree that they have
seen more effort given this year than in their past three years combined.
Stay True To The Silver and
Blue
Throughout these Nimitz High School hallways and spread across the Viking
fields, a new spirit can be seen and heard, and a new mission is being stated:
Nimitz Vikings are being true to the silver and blue…
