Purpose
Credit by Examination (CBE) evaluates your mastery of the Texas
Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for a particular subject or
grade level. All CBE tests are written to the TEKS.
SECONDARY (6-12)
Without Prior Instruction
Credit by examination is offered
to students as an opportunity to receive credit for a course in
which the student has received no prior instruction. A student may
advance one grade level (6-8)
or one course per subject area (9-12) in each testing period.
Scores 85% or above on an
approved examination in order to receive credit.
With Prior Instruction
Students may earn credit by
examination if they have
received prior instruction
in the subject for which the examination is taken.
Scores 70% or above on the
course examinations and/or completes applicable projects.
