ISD Middle School One-Act Play Festival
(Saturday, November 21, 2009) You are
invited to attend the Irving ISD Middle School One-Act Play Festival to
be held at Nimitz High School on Saturday, November 21, 2009.
Admission is free. Performing will be Travis Middle School
(at 9:00 am), Houston Middle School (at 10:15 am), Lamar Middle School
(at 11:30 am), Bowie Middle School (at 1:30 pm), de Zavala Middle School
(at 2:45 pm) and Crockett Middle School (at 4:00 pm). |
DRAFT 2010-2011 School Calendar
Attached
for review, distribution and discussion with staff, parents and
community members is a proposed DRAFT 2010-2011 school calendar.
The calendar is a result of preliminary discussion with the Board of
Trustees during Noon Work Sessions and is to be release for additional
input. All comments
and/or suggestions are welcomed and should be submitted to: Ralph
Diaz, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent at

Free Prostate Cancer Screenings
(Saturday, November 21st) One
in six men will develop prostate cancer in his lifetime. Early detection
and treatment of the disease can lead to complete recovery. To promote
wellness and raise awareness of prostate cancer, Texas Health Harris
Methodist Hospital Hurst-Euless-Bedford is offering free prostate cancer
screening exams to men who are over age 50 or at high risk. |

Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis
The Arthritis Foundation is planning to hold their
Jingle Bell Run/Walk on Saturday, December 5th in the Sundance Square in
Fort Worth. Any staff members interested in participating with an

Winners for National Run @ Work Day
Irving ISD held their "Walk with Us"
program on October 12th at three tracks in the Irving Schools.
Participants walked or ran for 35 minutes to improve their health.
T.J. Lee, Good and Schulze all had a phenomenal turnout with all three
having over 69% of staff participating. Pierce had almost 60%
participating. Irving ISD had 522 people walk that day.

Intermediate
Sign Language Class
Intermediate Sign Language Class will be offered starting January 25th
on Monday nights. Classes will be held at Britain Elementary
School and are free to families of deaf students, $10 for district
employees, and $20 for all others. You do not need to pre-register
... come to the first class and register then. |

Annual Craft Fair
Please Join the Academy Class of 2010 for the 5th Annual
Craft Fair to be held at the Jack E. Singley Academy on December 12,
2009 from 9 am until 4 pm. There will be lots of
shopping, a silent auction, and our very own Santa. Come and have your
child’s picture taken with Santa. Santa will be available from 10:00 am
-12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. |

Benefits Information for New Hires
The IISD Benefits Office has
received phone calls from several new hires about signing up for their
insurance. If you have not already signed up, we need you to sign up as
soon as possible. Your insurance coverage begins next Tuesday September
1 and we will need to get all new hires your ID cards. Here is a
webpage for new hires with information on signing up for benefits.

Spanish Oral Proficiency Stipend
The Irving ISD Board of Trustees has approved a $500 Spanish Oral
Proficiency Stipend. The stipend is annualized and paid during a
12 month period and available to Professionals and Paraprofessionals.
Information and forms are attached on how to qualify and apply for the
stipend. |
Outstanding Teacher or Employee of the Month Nominations
Administrators and Staff: It is never too late to nominate
outstanding teachers and employees for the Outstanding Teacher or
Employee of the Month Award. Committees select one from each
category to honor at a school board meeting each month and we are
always in need of new nominations! Thank you for your input!
