Parent Opportunities for Involvement
The IISD
Parent & Student Services Department has expanded
opportunities in its Parent Involvement Program
throughout the past year for parents to take a more
active role in the district and in their child’s
education. Through approximately 23 different
opportunities, parents are presented with various ways
to visit children’s teachers, volunteer at schools,
learn to speak with their children about adolescent
issues, serve on campus and district committees, and

Placement Test for Home-Schooled Students
Any “home-schooled
student” wishing to take one or more high
school College Board Advanced Placement
Exam(s) should contact the counseling office
at their local high school for exam
offerings, registration, and fee information
by March 26, 2010. The specific exam times
for the Advanced Placement Exams scheduled
from Monday May 3, 2010 to Friday May 14,
2010 can be found at

PSAT/NMSQT for
Home-Schooled Students
Any 11th grade “home-schooled student”
wishing to take the Preliminary SAT/National
Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)
on October 14, 2009 should contact the
counseling office at their local high school
for registration details and exam time by
October 7, 2009.

Irving ISD currently
provides laptops to each high school
student attending school in the
district. Though wireless
internet
is available at IISD schools, a
connection to the Internet may not
available at a student’s home.
Students who do not have
home Internet service should become
familiar with the free public access
points around the community. For a list

Trustees Featured on ISTV
Irving Schools Television (ISTV) has created video
profiles of the members of the IISD Board of Trustees
which can be seen on ISTV or on the web. The goal is to
familiarize television and online viewers with IISD

Parent Connection
How
can parents access grades, attendance and other student
information? Irving
ISD uses ParentConnection and
StudentConnection where parents & students log into
the GradeSpeed system and then are able to view
students' grades, attendance, etc.
Cell Phone Ban in School Zones
This
is a reminder that the use of cell phones while driving
in Irving school zones is prohibited to help provide
additional safety to children. These city guidelines
(which will be enforced on school days during active
school zone hours) will prevent motorists from engaging
in calls by talking, dialing or listening on a hand-held
mobile telephone, and entering or reading text
