Irving ISD Schedule for November 24-28
Monday and Tuesday, November
24-25, are holidays for students and IISD
employees will participate in staff
development. During these two days, all schools
will be closed, but central administrative
offices will be open for regular business hours.
All Irving ISD schools and
offices will be closed for the Thanksgiving
holidays, November 26-28.

Us for Thanksgiving Lunch
(November
20)
The Food Service Departments famous
annual Thanksgiving Lunch will be held on Thursday,
November 20th, at every IISD school. We invite parents
and grandparents to enjoy lunch with their
children/grandchildren on this special day. For less
than three dollars ($2.75), campus visitors can enjoy a
delicious and complete Thanksgiving lunch! Please
contact your schools
office or website for information about lunch
service times. What a special day and meal for families
to share!
Holiday Programs Scheduled
Approximately 40 holiday
programs featuring IISD bands, choirs and/or orchestras
will be presented throughout the month of December at

The Texas Association for the Gifted
and Talented will open the exhibit hall of the 2008
Annual Conference: Awakening
the Gifts Within
to the general public on Wednesday, November 12, from 4:00 PM to 7:00
PM.

involvement programs. These programs and events are
focused on father involvement that may emphasize
academic achievement, safe and drug free
schools, how to counter tobacco

Free WIFI Access
Irving ISD currently
provides laptops to each high school
student attending school in the
district. Though wireless
internet
is available at IISD schools, a
connection to the Internet may not
available at a students home.
Students who do not have
home Internet service should become
familiar with the free public access
points around the community. For a list

Child seat
distribution & education program
Texas
Department of State Health Services
(DSHS) Safe Riders coordinates a statewide child
safety seat distribution & education program,
according to Texas law. The goal of the
program is to address non-use of child safety seats
by providing seats and related education to
low-income families. This is accomplished by
working with a variety of local community groups,
who in turn offer community classes in which a
family can receive a new child safety seats.

Murder
Mystery Dinner
(Friday, February 14th) If you've
ever derived joy from solving a mystery, winning a game
of Clue, or simply are intrigued by the thought of
letting a night of secrets unfold around you, then you
need to attend the Murder Mystery Dinner at The Academy!
... You can start by enrolling in the new BlackBoard
course - Search "Murder Mystery" and it will be the only
one that appears. Please cast your vote on the opinion
polls based upon what you believe to be the best name
and tagline. ... If you'd like to help in the production
of the event, would like to play a character in the
dinner, know of a business or organization that would be
willing to donate (Prizes, Food, Funds, etc.), or would

Trustees Featured on ISTV
Irving Schools Television (ISTV) has created video
profiles of the members of the IISD Board of Trustees
which can be seen on ISTV or on the web. The goal is to
familiarize television and online viewers with IISD
trustees and give them an opportunity to learn more
about them. For the month of
October we are featuring the profile of one of the new
board members, Nancy L. Jones.

Breakfast Participation Climbs 17%
Early meal data indicates that the average daily
breakfast participation rate increased 17% in Irving
ISD! Data was examined from April 2008 and
September 2008. This means that several thousand more
students in SY08-09 are enjoying healthy yet low-cost
breakfasts every day. Numerous studies indicate that
breakfast is indeed the most important meal, and that
students who start their day with a healthy breakfast
perform better academically and have fewer trips to
school nurses, fewer tardies, and overall improved
behavior.
Afterschool Art Lab
Program
This program is FREE to all
Irving ISD middle school and high school students. (You
must register to attend.) Set in the atmosphere of the
Irving Arts Center, the Afterschool Art Lab Program
gives students the space, time and professional guidance
(if needed) to work on art class projects and
assignments. Students also have the opportunity to
explore additional 2-D and 3-D art projects.

ParentConnection
How
can parents access grades, attendance and other student
information? Irving
ISD uses ParentConnection and
StudentConnection where parents & students log into
the GradeSpeed system and then are able to view
students' grades, attendance, etc.

Updated
Thank you for being patient ... we have
received the updated email listing for teachers and
staff in Irving ISD and posted it on the web. You
should be able to find those new teachers and new
administrators in our online list now!

EPIC Learning System Courses
Students who were enrolled in the EPIC Learning System
courses in IISD (Economics, Government, College Algebra)
and successfully completed the course and earned college
credit, you may now request transcripts from the New
England College of Finance free of charge! Please
complete the form (attached) and mail (or fax) it to the
address shown. You may obtain your EPIC final exam and
college exam results by contacting your high school
counselor.
Cell Phone Ban in School Zones
This
is a reminder that the use of cell phones while driving
in Irving school zones is prohibited to help provide
additional safety to children. These city guidelines
(which will be enforced on school days during active
school zone hours) will prevent motorists from engaging
in calls by talking, dialing or listening on a hand-held
mobile telephone, and entering or reading text
