Team Race Bowling

Concept Being Taught: Cooperative Bowling
Objective: To work together to knock down pins to score points.
Grade Level: K-5
Equipment: Bowling pins, Nerf or other bowling ball(s,), Mats or other lane dividers, Poly-spots. (Task sheets-optional)
Playing Area: Gymnasium
Cues: None
Game Description: Teams line up in lanes and bowl from spots. Pins are aligned in a straight line at end of lane to increase success. First Bowler rolls, then retreives ball and hands to next person. Play continues until all the pins are down, then team works together to pick pins up as quickly as possible to begin again. Game is timed and the team with the most points at the end is the winner. No points are scored until all of the pins in the line are down. Give so many points each time they are all knocked down and have the students report the score in a multiplication format. For example, if a team knocked down the pins 4 times during game and they counted 8 each, they would answer 4x8==32 points. Change the number pins are worth each game to cover entire multiplication table. Encourage cooperation.
Modifications: Move poly spots closer for small children or children with a disability. Use addition for lower grades.
Assessment: question and answer, observation, check math
