How do we get
started?
1. Schedule a regular time during the week.
2. Start a journal of ideas the family would like to do.
3. Adapt the activity so everyone can participate.
4. Wear the proper clothes and shoes for the activity.
5. Be sure to warm up, stretch, and cool down after the
activity.
Ideas for the
home:
1. Set aside a specific indoor and outdoor play area.
2. Purchase toys that promote physical activity.
3. Choose fitness oriented presents for others.
4. Set a limit for activities that keep you sitting.
Such as television, computer, etc.
5. Use physical activities as a reward for good behavior.
6. Invite other relatives and other families whenever
possible.
7. Emphasize having "FUN", not who won.
8. Spend as much time outdoors as possible.
Ideas for
anywhere:
1. Pack a lunch for work.
2. Take the stairs.
3. Carry items properly.
4. If possible walk or jog.
5. Make YOUR chores active.
6. If you take the bus, get off a few stops early and walk the
rest.
7. Park as far away from the entrance as possible and walk.
In your own backyard? YES!
1. Run, Jog, and walk on a family treasure hunt.
2. Play catch with different size and shaped objects that you
can find.
3. Learn to juggle.
4. See who in the family can hula hoop the longest?
5. Jump Rope - rhymes, tricks, etc.
6. Pogo stick - who can stay on the longest?
7. Play hopscotch. Create your own hopscotch using
sidewalk chalk.
8. Go in-line skating or roller skating together.
9. Wash the car.
10. Take the family dog for a walk.
11. Play a tagging game in the backyard.
Rainy Day Activities:
1. Invite friends and family for dancing.
2. Play board games together.
3. Play hide and go seek. |
