Soccer Pin Guard

Concept Being Taught: Kicking
Objective: To have the students practice Kicking using the correct kicking motion.
Grade Level: 3-5
Equipment: Soccer balls and bowling pins, one per group
Playing Area: Any surface where the bowling pin will stand up.
Cues: Step with opposite foot and place it next to or slightly in front of the ball.  Kicking the ball with the inside of the kicking foot and follow through.
Game Description: The students stand and make a circle.  Have one student stand in the middle guarding the bowling pin.  The guard has to stay at least 3 feet away from the bowling pin.  The students kick the ball at the pin.  If the bowling pin falls over by the ball hitting it or the guard knocks down the bowling pin, the person who kicked the ball is now the guard.  Have the guard stand in the ready position (knees bent, feet shoulder width apart, slightly bent at the waist and head up)
Modifications: Encourage the students to pass the ball to other students that are around the circle before throwing the ball at the pin.  Hopefully to catch the guard out of position.
