TENNIS
Tennis is one of the most popular participation and spectator sports in the United States.  It demands and helps maintain a high level of fitness,.  The United States Tennis Association (USTA) Schools Program introduces tennis to large numbers of students.  The USTA program is designed to teach to large groups of students in gymnasiums and hardtops.  The challenge of teaching tennis in a school setting is to maximize the opportunities for practice, at high rates of success, while also providing enough information to help the students enjoy learning, without making the lessons so complex and technical that the students  become bored or disinterested.  Tennis  encourages lifetime sports, thinking skills, math and communication skills, and social and emotional development.

HEART ADVENTURE CHALLENGE COURSE
The heart adventure challenge course is designed so that the students can move through the four chambers of the heart in a larger-then-life setting.  The heart course encompasses more than physical education and physical activity.  It is a comprehensive 1-2 week unit of study which incorporates a general understanding of the heart and its function as well as the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  Students are kinesthetically involved in understanding how their heart works, with integrated activities taught before and throughout this unit.

Professional Golf Association
The NTPGA has been involved with our elementary schools. They have given golf equipment to all schools who have requested the equipment. The NTPGA also is providing a curriculum for teacher use. Harold Geyer, the representative for this group, has been very helpful and is willing for other schools to get started in this program as they see the need. Harold Geyer has not only provided curriculum and equipment, but has come to train and answer questions on proper teaching hints for elementary students in a large class setting.

BOWLING
Thanks to the efforts of four IISD physical education teachers our K-12 physical education programs are enjoying 12 new carpeted bowling lanes, 24 new bowling balls, and adpated bowling equipment for students w/ disabilities.  The equipment was purchased with money awarded to the 4 teachers through the IISD Grants to Teacher program.  The bowling equipment rotates to a different school each week and has been thoroughly enjoyed by IISD students and physical education teachers.
