The No Child Left
Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) requires each local education agency (LEA)
to publicly report progress of the LEA toward meeting the highly
qualified (HQ) teacher requirements.
To be HQ, a teacher
must have:
-
A Bachelor’s degree
-
Full State Certification
-
Competency demonstrated in the core
academic subject taught
-
Meet the Requirements of HOUSE
(high, objective, uniform standard of evaluations for
experienced teachers-as documented by June 1, 2007)
The reporting of
Highly Qualified teachers changed beginning with the 2007-2008
school year and is now completed in October at the start of the year
rather than at the end of the school year in June. Irving ISD does
not hire any teacher into the district that is not Highly Qualified
from the first day. The reporting to TEA at this time for 2009-2010
shows that 100% of our teachers in the core academic subject
areas are Highly Qualified. If this changes throughout the
year, additional reports will be made to TEA and this information
will be updated.
