STAAR to Replace TAKS

STAAR End of Course Tests

Get ready to say goodbye to TAKS and hello to STAAR!   Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the state's standardized testing program, the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) will be replaced by the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR).   For high school students, End of Course (EOC) tests for certain high school courses will begin replacing TAKS tests in 2011-2012. For grades 3-8, TAKS tests will be replaced by the more rigorous STAAR tests.  A few highlights:

  • Students who are currently in 8th grade will be the first to take the End of Course tests

  • Under the new EOC system, students will be required to pass End of Course exams for graduation

Although the details of the new STAAR system are still being worked out by the Texas Education Agency, Irving Independent School District is committed to preparing our students and our staff for this transition. This website is intended to help keep you up-to-date on the developments.

STAAR Resources

Many resources are available on the STAAR webpage at www.tea.state.tx.us/student.assessment/staar, including assessment attributes, assessed curriculum documents, and test blueprints. The STAAR webpage will continue to be the best source of information for the STAAR program; for example, in fall 2011 STAAR sample items will be posted on the resources page.
