Spanish Oral Proficiency Stipend

The Irving ISD Board of Trustees has approved a $500 Spanish Oral Proficiency Stipend. The stipend is annualized and paid during a 12 month period and available to Professionals and Paraprofessionals.

Below is information and forms on how to qualify and apply for the stipend.

Do I qualify for the Spanish Oral Proficiency Stipend?

1. You are ALREADY qualified if you are a:

Professional who has passed the Texas Oral Proficiency Test (TOPT) with a scored of 4 or better (unless currently receiving a bilingual stipend). Submit the form on the right to the Personnel Office to receive your stipend.

2. You may BECOME qualified if you are a:

Professional or Paraprofessional who chooses to take the District Approved Equivalent Assessment and passes. The form to request to take the assessment is on the right. Read in the box below to learn more about taking the Equivalent Assessment.

Equivalent Assessment

Your fee for the Equivalent Assessment is $85.00 which may be paid by:

Check made out to Irving ISD
Payroll Deduction - payroll deduction forms will be available in the personnel office

The District Approved Oral Proficiency Equivalent Assessment will be administered through Berlitz Languages, Inc.

The Berlitz Proficiency Interview is a guided 20-minute conversation over the phone
It assesses the ability to speak Spanish
Proficiency in speaking the language will be measured based on an established standard
Results are sent approximately 48 hours after taking the assessment

Scheduling to Take and Equivalent Assessment

To register, fill out the electronic “Equivalent Assessment Schedule Request Form” and email it to mcooper@irvingisd.net. You may also call Mary Cooper at 972-215-5230. Please know the date and time of when you plan to take the interview/assessment.
