Letter from Personnel Exemplary Attendance Plan Buy Back Form

IISD Employee,

Irving ISD has long considered outstanding employee attendance to be highly desirable, as substitutes in any field make our educational operation less effective. Student learning is our priority, and employee attendance is a critical factor in attaining student success. With this in mind, the IISD Board of Trustees approved a new plan on October 7th to reward outstanding employee attendance. This plan is called the Exemplary Attendance Plan.

As you can see from the attached summary, the Exemplary Attendance Plan will reward employee attendance (one absence or less each semester) with additional local sick leave days. These days will be placed in a separate account and may be used in one of three ways:

  1. Exemplary Attendance Days may used as additional local sick leave days when all other leave days have been exhausted. If an employee has an extended illness, family illness, maternity leave, or other lengthy leave, then these days may be used rather than being docked at one’s daily rate of pay.

  2. Exemplary Attendance Days may be sold at retirement at the same rate as the Retirement Buy-Back Plan. Set every year by the Board, the current Buy Back rate is $100 per day. Accumulated at a maximum rate of six days per year, this could be a valuable cash reward when one retires.

  3. Exemplary Attendance Days may be sold during employment at 80% of the Retirement Buy-Back rate, currently worth $80. An employee must have a minimum of 15 days in the account, and may sell a maximum of 10 in any one school year at the 80% rate. Any days sold over 10 may be sold at 50% of the Buy-Back rate. This could accumulate to a very valuable sum of money to be used when needed to buy a home, car, or other personal need.

The District hopes this incentive will increase attendance and retention of our valuable employees. It is an affordable package of benefits that could be very valuable if utilized wisely. Please take the time to study the attached plan for more details and examples of how to earn the days.

Any questions regarding this plan should be addressed to the Personnel Department.
