The following six tips will help you through Open Enrollment for employee benefits.

  1. Enroll Early
Go Online and make your  elections between August 1st and August 15th to ensure that you receive a Blue Cross ID Card in September.

  2. Turn in ALL Required Forms
If you are  applying for Life, Disability, Cancer or Medi-Gap Insurance for the first time ...you must turn in your application by August 15th to make the ID deadline mentioned above.

  3. Don’t Make an Appointment
It takes time to get you and your family enrolled in the new vendor’s system.  So don’t make an appointment for the first few weeks of September unless it is an absolute emergency.  Otherwise, wait a few weeks ... it will be much less of a hassle on you and the doctor’s office.

  4. Verify Your Data
Double check your address and the names, birthdates and relationships of your dependents.  If it is wrong in the Munis ESS Online system it will be wrong with the vendor.   And remember, dependents you list MUST be your legal dependents.  If your child turned 25, they are no longer eligible for insurance.

  5. Update Coverage
Did you know that if you already have Optional Term Life Insurance, you can increase it every year by $50,000 (as long as you don’t go over 2 times your annual salary) without completing forms or answering medical questions?  Turn the application in by August 15th.

  6. No Questions
    We are having another true
Open Enrollment for the Disability InsuranceYou can sign up for the first time or increase your existing benefit by completing another application.  Mark Change or New on the application.  Turn the application in by August 15th.
