Frequently Asked Question:

I am using Publisher and want to add an Excel, Word, or PowerPoint file to my website for students and parents to access.  How do I do that?

Answer:

I am glad you asked ... this shows you are thinking ahead and really using your website.

Step 1:  Save the Excel, Word or PowerPoint file to your web folder.

Start Internet Explorer and go to your FTP folder, i.e., FTP://www.irvingisd.net/~jsmith

Now RIGHT CLICK anywhere in the white space of the screen and choose LOGIN AS:

Enter your FULL domain login, ie, "iisd1\jsmith" and your network password.

Now you can drag and drop documents into the window to add them to your web folder.

NOTE:  If the links are to documents from your HOME.HTM page, then drop them in the main window.
            If the links are to documents from other pages ... drop them in the folder WITH those pages.

Step 2:   Now that you have placed the documents in your web folder you can LINK to those folders from your publisher web pages.

Open your Publisher file and highlight the item in your web that you want to be the link (text or picture) and then click the LINK button.

Now your can enter the NAME of the document (that is already in your web folder) that you want to link to.  Notice below I typed "katrinapresentation.ppt" because I knew that was the name of the file I placed in my web folder above.

Click the OK button and you will have created a link to a PowerPoint.

Publish your web as usual and the link will be on your web.
