General Rules and Policies

High School and Middle School Summer Programs

Discipline

Every student in summer school will be required to sign a “Discipline Agreement”.  This agreement must be countersigned by a parent or legal guardian.  The agreement outlines the policies governing student conduct in the summer school program.  Students who violate this agreement will be withdrawn from summer school without refund.

Class Size

The summer school principal will strive for a class size of 20.  A class will be cancelled if a fully qualified teacher cannot be found.

Attendance

Students must be regular and prompt in attendance.  If vacation or other plans of the family will cause absence in excess of two days per semester, he/she should not enroll.  If a student is absent more than two days per semester, he/she is subject to removal without refund.  There are no excused absences in summer school.

Sanction for Withdrawal

A ˝ credit course dropped after three (3) days of class will be recorded as a ˝ credit attempted with no credit earned.  A one-credit course dropped after six (6) days of class will be recorded as 1 credit attempted with no credit earned.  This will affect the student’s GPA the same as making an "F” in the course.

Grade Reporting

At the conclusion of summer school, it is the responsibility of each student to bring a self-addressed stamped envelope if they want their report card mailed to their home address.  Otherwise, the report card will be available at their home campus.

Miscellaneous

Library facilities will be utilized.

Food service will be provided to middle school students.  Cold drink and snack machines will be available to students during the lunch break.

Parking for high school students will be provided at the Irving High School student parking lot.

Irving ISD students who plan to attend summer school out of district should verify that the program is offered by an accredited school.  The student must also obtain written prior approval from their counselor to enroll in an out of district course for credit.
