Summer Programs
Discipline
Every student in summer
school will be required to sign a “Discipline Agreement”. This
agreement must be countersigned by a parent or legal guardian. The
agreement outlines the policies governing student conduct in the summer
school program. Students who violate this agreement will be withdrawn
from summer school.
Class
Size
The summer school
principal will strive for a class size of 20. A class will be cancelled
if a fully qualified teacher cannot be found.
Attendance
Students must be
regular and prompt in attendance. If vacation or other plans of the
family will cause absence in excess of two days per semester, he/she
should not enroll. If a student is absent more than two days per
semester, he/she is subject to removal without refund. There are no
excused absences in summer school.
Sanction for Withdrawal
A ˝ credit course
dropped after three (3) days of class will be recorded as a ˝ credit
attempted with no credit earned. A one-credit course dropped after six
(6) days of class will be recorded as 1 credit attempted with no credit
earned. This will affect the student’s GPA the same as making and "F”
in the course.
Grade
Reporting
At the conclusion of
summer school, it is the responsibility of each student to bring a
self-addressed stamped envelope if they want their report card mailed to
their home address. Otherwise, the report card will be available at
their home campus.
Miscellaneous
Library facilities will
be utilized.
Food service will be
provided to middle school students. Cold drink and snack machines will
be available to students during the lunch break.
Parking for high school
students will be provided at the Irving High School student parking
lot.
Irving ISD students who
plan to attend summer school out of district should verify that the
program is offered by an accredited school. The student must also
obtain written prior approval from their counselor to enroll in an out
of district course for credit.
