For 100 years, Irving Independent School District has
been offering students the best resources available to achieve a quality
education. Students representing 99 different countries and speaking 54
languages have come to add their heritage to a school district that
adapts with the times and excels at meeting these students’ thirst for
learning. Carefully planned academic, athletic and extracurricular
programs prepare students to succeed in a world that will demand their
best.
IISD students consistently bring distinction to the
District through their accomplishments in academics, career and
technology, gifted and talented, performing arts, special education,
athletics and JROTC programs. Graduating seniors in the Class of 2009
from Irving, MacArthur and Nimitz High Schools and Jack E. Singley
Academy earned approximately $21 million in scholarship offers. Academic
teams have won regional, state level, and national contests.
In November 2007, $49.8 million in bond funds were
approved by Irving ISD voters for instructional technology. Because of
this forward-thinking vision, students have access to computer
technology through numerous classroom computers, computer labs and
mobile multimedia stations. The District also provides all students in
grades 9-12 with laptop computers for use at home and school during the
school year.
Nationally recognized as Best in the Nation in 1991 and
2000, the District’s library program features The Library Solution
automated library system that includes more than 750,000 items. School
libraries also provide Internet access to a variety of research
databases.
In 100 years, Irving ISD has grown from a single-building
wooden schoolhouse to encompass 48.5 square miles within the City of
Irving. The District’s location in the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth
area and just to the east of DFW International Airport provides Irving
ISD the benefit of resources from the entire metroplex, as well as
provides a convenient partner in education for major corporations.
