       <title>Plans Underway for Supplies Drive</title>
       <link>http://www.irvingisd.net/districtweekly/weekly308.htm#plans</link>
       <description>
       (Irving, Texas) Plans are already underway for the 6th Annual Mayor and Firefighters’ Supplies for Success drive, held this year from July 1 through August 7. This city-wide event is held to collect school supplies for economically disadvantaged students who attend school in Irving ISD. Supplies can be dropped off at all 11 City of Irving fire stations. School supplies will be sorted and delivered to counselors at every Irving ISD school. The counselors will give economically disadvantaged students supplies that they need at the beginning of the school year. School supplies needed include: backpacks, zippered notebook binders, one-, two-, or three-inch notebook binders, one-subject spiral notebooks, construction paper, dry-erase marker and highlighter sets, pens, pencils, erasers, wide-rule notebook paper, colored pencil and marker sets, large glue sticks, and 16- and 24-count Crayons. Each year, an average of approximately $10,000 in donations of funds and supplies is collected. With the help of volunteers from Chase Bank, supplies will be collected from each fire station, sorted at a central location, and then distributed to each school. Parents in need of assistance with supplies should contact their Irving ISD school counselors. Businesses interested in donating supplies are encouraged to contact Thelma Cantu, partnerships in education coordinator, at 972-600-5017, or via email to tcantu@irvingisd.net.
