State and federal law
require certain information to be disseminated to school district employees. In
some cases, the law specifically requires that employees be given copies of
policies or notices; in other cases, notices must be posted; and yet in others,
conveying the information—in staff meetings, employee handbooks, or staff
newsletters---may suffice. This STAFF HANDBOOK is intended to assist the
district and campus administrators by serving as a tool as it relates to
dissemination requirements. This CD ROM is a ready reference on laws, rules,
regulations and guidelines that affect the daily operation of educational
institutions. The electronic handbook has been prepared in an effort to
summarize some basic policies and operational procedures in a quick access
format for your daily use. For your protection, know what is in your
handbook and the Board Policy Manual.
In addition, the
information will be supplemented via the District’s Intranet Web
found via the network, website
www.irvingisd.net. This site contains a number of helpful resources that
can be downloaded when needed. Campuses will be providing a loose-leaf binder
containing information pertinent to individual campuses, i.e., fire drill
schedules, bell schedules, etc. adding additional access to most operational
procedures while allowing for periodic updates for most procedures.
This handbook is neither a
contract nor a substitute for the official district policy manual. District
policies and procedures can change at any time. For this reason, you are urged
to refer to the Board Policy Manual located in the teachers' lounge and school
office for more complete information. Also, the entire Board Policy Manual can
be accessed on-line through the Irving ISD web site at
www.irvingisd.net by clicking on the “Board of Trustees” menu choice or on
the link for “Board Policy Online”.
