CRISIS PROCEDURES
In the event of a crisis the following
procedures are to be followed:
-
Staff will be informed of a crisis situation as soon as possible through a
staff meeting, memo, email, telephone or in person.
-
If a staff member is the first person
who becomes aware of an impending danger or crisis, the administrator
and/or office staff should be notified immediately.
-
Staff will be instructed
to follow detailed information found in the
Teacher Crisis Management Quick Reference Guide
or will be given
specific verbal instructions by an administrator.
-
If the crisis threatens the safety of
the students
and staff, the administrator will direct the staff to take appropriate
measures, such as shelter-in-place, lock down, evacuation, or
reverse-evacuation.
-
Teachers should carry
the student roll with them when evacuating the building.
-
If injuries
are sustained, staff will secure assistance from the school nurse until
emergency personnel arrive; if the school nurse is not available, staff
should call 9-1-1.
-
The campus administrator
will:
-
Call 9-1-1 in the event of an
imminent danger, e.g., hostile person, credible bomb threat, hostage
situation, etc.
-
Notify the Security Department, at
(972) 261-5134, and the SRO.
-
Request assistance from the CARE
Team, if needed.
-
The
Director of Security and Operations will inform the Campus Operations
Director, Public Information Director, Superintendent, and other members
of the central administration, as needed.
-
The Superintendent may gather designated
central administrators in the Emergency Operation Center during a major
crisis.
-
Teachers will discuss
the crisis with the students according to instructions given by the
administrator.
-
Students who need
additional counseling may be sent to the CARE room or to a counselor.
-
News media will not be
allowed to interview or film students or staff during or following a
school crisis. Additional news media guidelines may be found in the
administrator's
Crisis Management Handbook.
-
Students may be released
to their parents or guardians according to the school procedures.
-
All
staff members are responsible for being knowledgeable about and following
their campus crisis plan.
-
More detailed
information may be found in the administrator's
Crisis Management Handbook.
