NEW TEACHER LIAISONS

The goal of the Irving ISD New Teacher Liaison Program is to offer support and resources to teachers new to the teaching profession in order to ensure a successful first year experience and instill a desire to remain in the profession.  The liaisons are all former IISD master teachers.  They provide services to all IISD induction year teachers.  All IISD campuses are served by the liaisons.

The New Teacher Liaisons offer many services for the teachers new to the profession.  The following is a list of some of the services provided:

  1. Meet on a regular basis to answer questions and listen to concerns.  These contacts may be in person, by telephone, or by email.

  2. Communicate information about staff development opportunities

  3. Distribute reading material relevant to induction year teachers.

  4. Visit classrooms and provide feedback as requested.

  5. Assist in the location and use of appropriate district resources.

  6. Conduct after-school seminars on topics of interest.

  7. Host district-wide sessions throughout the year to facilitate exchange of ideas.

  8. Cover classes for new teachers to observe master teachers or go with them to observe.

  9. Provide assistance in specific areas such as:  development of lesson plans, classroom management and discipline, preparation for formal evaluation, grading and record keeping, organizational skills, time management, parent/teacher communications, motivational strategies, and specific individual needs.

  10. The liaisons work with principals and members of the C&I staff to ensure a successful first year experience for beginning teachers.
