short bells - Return to seats
Length of warning time determines whether
children will be sent home or retained in buildings. If warning time is two
hours or more, all students will be sent home immediately in case of enemy
attack. If warning time is 30 minutes to two hours, all children who can reach
home within 30 minutes will be sent home. With warnings of 15 minutes or less,
all children will be moved to predetermined and designated safe places with all
possible speed.
Everyone should lie on the floor, arms
covering heads, and await the passing of the shock wave. After the shock wave
has passed, and if streets are passable, those who can walk home in 30 minutes
will be sent home. Remaining children are to be held in safe places until their
parents call for them or transportation is provided, including special education
classes. If parents are not at home, they should have made previous
arrangements with neighbors to look after their children in the event of a
disaster.
All students will receive basic instruction in
survival from their teachers. Included will be information on how to take cover
and other vital information. Drills to practice survival may be held at
appropriate intervals. SYSTEM-WIDE DRILLS INVOLVING SENDING CHILDREN HOME
WILL BE HELD ONLY AT THE DIRECTION OF THE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS.
