STUDENT TEACHING
Program for
Senior Student Teachers
Student teachers are usually placed
with supervising teachers who have 1) a valid Texas Teaching Certificate,
2) a minimum of three years' successful teaching experience, with at least
one year's teaching experience in the Irving district, and 3) the
recommendation of their building principal as to their proven ability to
provide the kind of experiences and supervision that would lead the
student teacher into developing skills and abilities to cope with the
challenges of the classroom. (Application for selection as supervising
teacher may be found in Appendix B.)
Program for
Junior Student Teachers (Early Field Experience)
Some universities participate in a
student teaching program for junior students which requires the student to
spend a minimum of thirty clock hours observing in the classroom.
Assignment of such students to District teachers will be made by the
directors of elementary and secondary instruction. The schedule of
observation will be worked out between the junior student teacher and the
classroom teacher. Teachers receive no supplementary pay for
participation in this program.
