Nimitz Future Farmers of America
Reciting the Future Farmers of America creed, performing
in an agricultural radio broadcast, and demonstrating veterinary
technician procedures are the three categories Nimitz High School FFA
students are competing in this fall. In only its second year
Nimitz competed well enough in the district meet to qualify for area in
all three categories. The area contest is November 22, and if they
finish first there they go to the state finals on December 9th.

Academy Students Intern at Irving Jail
Some criminal justice students at The Academy of Irving
ISD get a unique opportunity to learn how a detention center operates.
The internship program between the high school and the Irving Police
Department is the first of its kind in the nation. Allowing four high
school seniors to earn credits while working at the jail.

Mystery Advertisement Contest Winner
Here is a big thanks to all the students that submitted entries for the
advertisement contest. We are proud to announce the winner of the
contest, Megan Ferrar, a junior at MacArthur. Stay tuned for more

Latinos Stand Up - Nimitz High School
Nimitz High School, like all high schools in Irving ISD
has a good number of students taking classes in ESL (English as a Second
Language). The difference here at Nimitz is what is being done
beyond the classroom in a program called Latinos Stand Up.

November
The leaders on the field are many times the leader in the
classroom and that's the case for both of this months featured atheletes.
November's Atheletes of the Month are Bethany Maynard (MHS Volleyball)
and Zacharey Frazier (NHS Football.)

Mock Election
Results
Irving ISD mock election was held on October 30 with 24,419
votes for the 2008 presidential candidates. View the results of
this election and see who the students picked as their choice for the
next president. Sample discussions questions are provide for
further thought and research. |
Speak
Up Survey
Speak Up, a national online research project facilitated by Project
Tomorrow, gives individuals the opportunity to share their viewpoints
about key educational issues. Each year, findings are summarized and
shared with national and state policy makers. Participating schools and
districts can access their data online, free-of-charge. We
value your opinions. |
Afterschool
Art Lab Program
This program is FREE to all Irving ISD middle
school and high school students. (You must register to attend.)
Set in the atmosphere of the Irving Arts Center, the Afterschool Art Lab
Program gives students the space, time and professional guidance (if
needed) to work on art class projects and assignments. Students
also have the opportunity to explore additional 2-D and 3-D art
projects. |
Cell Phone
Ban in School Zones
This
is a reminder that the use of cell phones while driving in Irving school
zones is prohibited to help provide additional safety to children. These
city guidelines (which will be enforced on school days during active
school zone hours) will prevent motorists from engaging in calls by
talking, dialing or listening on a hand-held mobile telephone, and
