Summer Virtual Course - Online Health
The
online Health course is being offered again this Summer. This course offers
students a flexible learning opportunity through a challenging, relevant
online format that will lead them toward completion of their graduation
plans. This will provide those students with greater
flexibility in scheduling classes/electives by getting this required
half-credit completed. Also 1/2 of the summer tuition
will be reimbursed if the student makes a passing grade in this
course. |

KickStart
Punching and kicking their way to a disciplined and
drug-free life style. Students at two Irving ISD middle school
take classes in martial arts through a program called KickStart.

StudentConnection Pilot
(Pilot for: MacArthur,
Lamar, Gilbert, and Townsell)
This year
we are piloting the StudentConnection for the 4 campuses above
where students can login to the Irving ISD GradeSpeed system and be able to view their
grades, attendance, etc. Upon successful completion of
this pilot, Irving ISD hopes to be able to open this service to more
schools. |

Irving ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2008-2009 school calendar at
the March 21st board meeting. The calendar includes 177 days of

Java Makes Me Jump!
Attention
middle school students! Java Makes Me Jump is a monthly IISD
middle school student event held at Barnes and Noble bookstore in the
Irving Mall each month from 6−7 p.m. Come out to hear about
books, play a game, win door prizes, get a free drink from Barnes and
Noble, and hang out with your friends. There is a theme each month − ask
your librarian or check the Java website!

(pianist) who has already performed in all five continents. His
performances have been heard in the most prestigious venues all over
Europe, in Morocco, Jordan, Israel, Gabon, Japan, Taiwan, Brazil,

DigiGirlz
High Tech Camp
(Attention: 8th graders going into 9th grade next year)
Microsoft will be hosting the DigiGirlz High Tech Camp in Las Colinas
(Irving) on August 12-14, 2008 Our mission is to introduce 9th-12th grade
girls to the many career fields offered within the High Tech industry.
This is an exciting two-day experience and
it’s completely FREE of charge. You must submit a letter of
recommendation from your teacher or counselor, or from a leader in your
extracurricular or community organization in order to participate. Space
is limited so apply early! |

Empowered Education Student Video Awards
(April
30 deadline) Here's your chance to give talented young people
a rich learning experience that expands their horizons with technology
while deepening their understanding of how America works. To
qualify, students make a three-to-five minute original video on
the theme of "How Technology Helps Me Learn." Winning
entries will be those produced by students in the best journalistic
style illustrating how their schools or colleges are employing
technology to advance learning. |

Camps
(March
31 deadline) The
University of Texas at Arlington College of Engineering is offering a
variety of summer camps and workshops for students (from 6th - 12th
grade). Camps are one week in duration and provide students with a
broad exposure to a variety of engineering disciplines.

Lone Star Leadership Academy programs for outstanding Texas

Academy Craft Fair
The
Academy of Irving is proud to present our 3rd Annual Academy Craft Fair
on December 8th from 9am−4pm. We have over 50 confirmed crafters
and vendors. Also Santa’s play land will be open the whole day for
the kids play for two hours while parents shop. Santa is dropping
by from 10am−2pm to take pictures with the little ones! |

1, 2007) Music Matters!
by the Metropolitan Winds.
The Metropolitan Winds is hosting a Free Concert for Irving ISD
students, staff, and community on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at
MacArthur High School Auditorium. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m.
The music will be quite varied and will keep the interest of the young
and the "not-so-young" alike. This will not be a formal concert - no
tuxedos on the stage; it will be a family event. Come as you are and
