Prior to launching this organization in 1987, he was a school and county administrator and classroom teacher in several school systems throughout California.

ISTE's CEO, Don Knezek, has a distinguished career in educational technology, and he has been involved with ISTE for many years. Her responsibilities are to provide leadership for the integration, utilization, evaluation, and expansion of instructional technologies throughout the state through the on-going implementation of the State Board of Education's Long Range Plan for Technology.

Jack Singley is superintendent of Irving ISD where all students in grades 9-12 have wireless laptop computers for use at home and school during the school year.  Also all teachers PK-12 receive and use a wireless laptop computer.  In October 1997, $47 million in bond funds were approved that funded a five-year instructional technology plan that included networking schools and other facilities.  In October 2001, $54.8 million in bond funds were approved to update equipment and to provide equipment for new facilities and new programs.
