Mrs. McDonald 7th Grade English and Honors English In Mrs. McDonald’s English Adventure, students will have the voyage of their lives. Each week we will explore 16 different spelling words, five of which will be counted as vocabulary words as well. On the weekly spelling and vocabulary test, students will be responsible for not only the spelling of each word, but also for the meaning of the five vocabulary words. In addition to the regular spelling and vocabulary lists, the Honors English students will be studying SAT prep words and their meanings. Those tests will each Thursday as well. The English Adventure classes will all turn in a Weekly English Journal Entry (WEJE) each Friday. These entries should be recorded in their composition notebooks and should meet the minimum requirements. Students are free to create anything that involves writing. I want them to have the freedom to express themselves. Appropriate WEJEs include original songs, lyrics, poetry, short stories, etc. WEJEs can also be used as the student’s personal journal. The minimum requirements are that the WEJEs are at least 14 lines long, there is no inappropriate language and they must include some sort of graphic, picture, illustration, photograph, etc. This six weeks, we will write a full process essay as a class. The autobiographical narrative we will be writing will prep students for 7th grade TAKS writing. Daily work will include brainstorming, writing, editing and revision. The completed essay will count as a major grade at the end of the six weeks. |
