Quotes

Below are quotes from the High School Technology conference on October 7th. These comments are from Helen Teague’s afternoon session, she asked participants to tell her one thing they learned that day.

  • My kids have 40 to 55 IQs.  Visuals really help them learn.  I'm excited about learning to use the big screen, the projector, the relevant web sites-anything and everything technical and otherwise that will help my kids get what they want, a decent job!
    Jack David Heaton Jr

  • I learned several things: How to pull up resources on the oops website, and the directions for using the big screen.
    Bill Hughes

  • One thing that I learned today that I will use in the classroom is to use the computer as a warm up tool.
    Rick King

  • I LOVE the virtual field trip idea... we will be using that!

  • I like the idea of using an internet site as a bell-ringer.  I like the oops site and the pbs site.  I like the games and lesson plans that are on oops - especially for sub assignments or for being creative.

  • I liked Mr. Singley's talk about how Irving ISD has made technology a priority (as opposed to building a state-of-the-art football stadium, etc. like other school districts!).  I am very happy for the students of IISD that they are being given this opportunity.

  • I think it would be very, very worthwhile to hold an assembly for the students and explain why they have laptops and what they are expected to do with them (and not do with them!), much like Mr. Ladewig's explanation to us.
    Trish Williams

  • One thing I have learned that I can use in the classroom is.............
Saving websites as archives so they can be accessed.
Utilizing the links to the different types of technology projects

  • The one thing I learned that I can use in the classroom is...
I could use email/blackboard to communicate with my basketball players.  I can send things from the playbook, scouting reports, or even inspirational thoughts for the day.  It is also a good way for them to communicate with me.  It may be a sensitive situation regarding their personal life or something concerning the team and maybe they don't want to be seen going into the coaches office in a closed door setting.
    Rick Menasco

  • The "oops" website lists several virtual tours that students can go on. I
teach Humanities, and am always looking for ways to expose my students to
new places and these tours are perfect!! Thank you for sharing them with me.
I can't wait to pass them on!
    Vanessa

  • One thing I learned that I can use in the classroom is....... That while I was surfing the OOPS site I found a worksheet generator that takes all the work out of creating simple math worksheets.
    Thomas Gutzke

  • We can display digital stills of the previous halftime performance on the big screen and have the band students analyze areas of alignment that need improvement and how that improvement can be achieved. The next marching rehearsal, they can implement those improvements.
    Bryan Bond

  • One thing I can use the laptop for are interactive science sites in addition to lectures, labs or worksheets. There are a couple I have already found that got good reviews from my "test audience" in my 4th period class. Good job today!

Scan rhythm sheets for use in teaching better reading skills

  • I got lots of good math sites.  Thanks.  I also will remember that we (educators) need to tell each other "thanks" because we will probably never hear it from the kids.
    Judy Blalock

  • One thing I learned was the suggestion to make a computer plan and a non-computer plan for each day. Also, have students transcribe notes in 10 words, 50 words, or ... less. Gets away from copy and paste web pages into student file.
