Our Professional Staff

Irving High School has two full-time Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainers on Staff.

Stephen Bunt, Ed.D, L/ATC

Dr. Bunt is a graduate of Baylor University, earning a Bachelor's (1976), Master's, (1977) and Doctorate (1997) degree in Education from the University of North Texas. He has been at Irving High since 1990. He also has served as an athletic trainer for the United States Field Hockey Association National Teams in their international competition, US Tae Kwon Do, Team KTI, and with the United States Olympic Committee Sports Medicine Program. Dr. Bunt oversees the IISD CPR and first aid training program for coaches and UIL sponsors. He is on the IISD AED Public Access Defibrillation committee. He also assists in coordination UIL Eligibility Compliance and the NCAA recruiting process.

Justin Walker MS L/ATC

Mr. Walker returns to Irving High after a successful career in the clinical field of athletic training.  He brings extensive experience to our school having worked at numerous high schools in the DFW area. He is a graduate of Irving High and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master’s degree of Science from University of North Texas.  Previously Mr. Walker served as the Head Athletic Trainer at Irving MacArthur and Irving Nimitz High Schools. He has also served as athletic trainer at University of Dallas, Northlake Junior College, Plano Prestonwood Christian Academy, and Grapevine Faith Christian School.  Justin also worked with the Dallas Stars for seven seasons as rehab consultant and athletic trainer.

 

The Irving Athletic Trainers provide an interactive program for first aid certification for all coaches in the IISD by distance learning. This was achieved by creating a CD presentation with secured remote testing through the district's virtual classroom utilizing Blackboard. Additional development of this program is ongoing.
