Have you seen this symbol around Townley? The “Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Ready” symbol stating the guidelines for our three year behavior initiative being implemented at Townley this year. In conjunction with our Region 10 Educational Service Center in Richardson and the Texas Education Agency, Townley staff will be receiving training through a grant from TEA. This is an effort to promote a more positive school-wide environment while approaching the problems and opportunities toward discipline. Expected outcomes of this researched based program include:

       *An increased positive school climate

       *A reduction in misbehavior issues

       *Significant reductions of inappropriate behavior

       *Increased parental school involvement

       *Higher achievement scores

Using a three tiered pyramid support model, all students will receive instruction aimed at improving safety, civility and productivity in and out of the classroom. This year our focus will be on the common areas of our school: the cafeteria, hallways, restrooms, etc. Students can be seen earning “Heart Tickets” throughout our school when they exhibit exemplary behavior in the common areas. When their class reaches a pre-determined amount of tickets, the class will receive an award!  Year two will focus on classroom behaviors and year three will target high-risk students who continue to struggle with behavior related issues.  Part of the regular curriculum will include the teaching of expected behavior.

HOW CAN FAMILIES HELP? Discipline begins at home. Parents can stay informed and educated on the rules and regulations of Townley Elementary. Communication between parents and teachers on a regular basis is necessary for student’s success.

We encourage parents to use the same guidelines at home that we use at Townley. (“Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Ready”) This not only reinforces what the student is learning & practicing at school, it will also offer continuity between home and school.

We at Townley are very excited about this innovative program. You may pick up a yellow copy of the “Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Ready” guidelines in the Townley front office for your use at home. If you have any question, please contact the Townley counselors, Mrs. Martinez (grades 1,3,5) or Ms. Johnston (K,2,4).
