Dear Texas Connect friends,

Howdy from Miss White’s 4th grade class in Irving, Texas. We are located 24 miles west of Dallas (home of the Cowboys!) and 24 miles east of Fort Worth. Our school’s name is Sally B. Elliott and our mascot is an eagle.

We start our school day at 7:45am with morning announcements on TV. Each week, a different class is responsible for the pledges and on Friday, the whole class shares something they have learned. Then after announcements, we have DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read) until 8:00am. Every Friday, we get to sing our school song and we have Flashlight Friday or KISS which stands for Keep It Silent Students. This is when we get to go anywhere in the room and read for an hour!

Our class is made up of 10 girls and 10 boys. We have a V.I.P. (Very Important Person) each week and this person is Miss White’s helper. They also get to decide who will hold the door open for the day. We only choose a boy since they are supposed to be a gentleman!

We also have a special thing for 4th graders called Eagle Team. These people hold the doors open each morning and monitor the hallways.

We are looking forward to learning more about our Texas Connect friends!

Sincerely,

Miss White’s class J

 Dear Texas Friends,

Soar with us Eagles to Ms. McGibboney’s fourth grade classroom at Sally B. Elliott in Irving, Texas.  Irving is home to the Dallas Cowboys Stadium.  Our School is 35 years old.

Our school day begins at 7:45 with televised morning announcements.  We love this time because each class in the school takes turn participating by saying the Pledge and on Friday we share with the school what we are learning that week.  We also like DEAR time. This is where our whole school even the office staff Drop Everything And Read. Ms. McGibboney starts our day by explaining each subject and the activities that we are expected to achieve by the end of the day.  Once she is finish we get to choose which subject we want to do first.  Our goal is to complete everything by the end of the day.  This allows our teacher to meet with each one of us for individual tutoring.   Our favorite subject is math where we learn through playing games.  We have lunch at 12:05 and recess at 2:30 until 2:45 were we leave from recess to go home.  We have 17 students in our class 8 boys and 9 girls.

We are enjoying hearing from all of you and cannot wait to learn more.

 Sincerely,

 Ms. McGibboney's Class

Our day begins at 7:45, with the flag salutes and televised announcements. Then we Drop Everything And Read for fifteen minutes. We have a student of the week and a VIP. These two students help Mrs. Hosch by passing out papers, monitoring the halls, and running errands.

We have a fifteen minute recess at the end of the day. We take our belongings outside and are dismissed from the playground when the bell rings at 2:45.

Dear Texas Connect Friends,

Howdy from Mrs. Copeland’s 1st grade G.T. class! Our school is Sally B. Elliott and our city is Irving. Our school starts at 7:30 and ends at 2:45.

There are 15 kids in our class, 5 boys and 10 girls. Monday through Thursday we wear our uniforms. Our uniform colors are red, blue, light blue, green, and white. On Friday we wear our blue pride and spirit shirts and jeans.

We are such a friendly class! Our teacher loves taking pictures of us, so we started making scrapbooks about our class. We each have our own scrapbook. We learn about different countries by looking at words and pictures in suitcases in our room. We’ve learned about France, Japan, USA, Antarctica, and Nigeria. We love to learn!

We can’t wait to meet you!

Sincerely,

Salutations Texas Connect Participants!

We, the students of Ms. Blackley’s 3rd grade class are extremely excited about being a part of Texas Connect.  The idea was given to us by one of our wonderful 4th grade teachers, Mrs. Purchase-Koen, and we are truly grateful!

Our gifted and talented class is one of four 3rd grade classes at Lockhart Elementary School, located in the Super Bowl city, Houston, Texas!  We are the Lockhart Cubs, represented by the vibrant color of green and white.

There are 20 students in our class; 13 girls and 7 boys.  Everyday is a great day in Ms. Blackley’s class because there are many creative and imaginative students.  We have singers, dancers, writers, artists, and even a comedian!  Can you imagine what Fridays are like.

The day begins at 7:45.  Students are assigned various teachers for reading at 8:15 and then return to homeroom class at 9:45.  Lunch is at 11:20.  When the weather is cooperative, we have recess after lunch.

At 12:20 we go to ancillary, which is Math Lab on Mondays, Science Lab on Tuesdays, P.E. on Wednesdays, Computer Lab on Thursdays, and Music on Fridays. Ancillary lasts for 45 minutes, so that gives our teacher a break to do what she needs to.  There is a pride point system throughout the school. We can earn from 1 to 10 points, based on our behavior in ancillary.  Proudly we can say that we have had the most pride points in the entire school for two consecutive nine-week grading cycles!

The day normally ends at 3:00, but due to TAKS tutorials and after school programs, some students leave at 3:00, 4:00, or 5:00, depending on their involvement.

We are anxiously looking forward to working with all of you!

Genuinely,

Ms. Blackley and her 3rd Grade Students

Dear Friends,

We are Mrs. Tyner’s fourth grade class.  Our school is called Sally B. Elliott Elementary and is located in Irving, Texas.  Our mascot is the eagle.  We sit between two very important places:  Texas Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, and Lone Star Park where horses run as fast as the wind.

We have twenty students in our class.   We’ve been working hard all year to prepare for the TAKS test.  Overall, our favorite subject is math.  We have competed with another class to test our multiplication skills.  We also created geometry notebooks using the computer.  Because of our hard work in math, we’ve earned money to spend on technology in our classroom.

We look forward to learning about exciting things that are happening in your school and especially in your classroom.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Tyner’s 4th Grade Class

Dear Texas Connect Pals,

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls we proudly present Ms. Rottier's 4th grade class at Sally B. Elliott Elementary School in Irving, Texas. We are excited to participate in this project with all of you. In our class there are 12 boys and 9 girls, which makes a grand total of 21. We have one extraordinary teacher, what more do we need?

Our school has a few unique things we would like to tell you about. We have a self-manager program, which is a program that recognizes kids who can manage their behavior without being told. Kids at our school wear an ID badge with their picture on it, their name and a bar code, which allows us to check out our books at the library and get our lunch. Self-managers have a badge that is red, while all students' badges are blue.

Fourth graders at our school are in charge of opening the doors when the morning bell rings. Kids on this crew are called "Eagle Team" as we are the Elliott Eagles. When the morning bell rings we tune in to the Elliott Morning show which broadcasts on all televisions around the building and in our rooms.

After lunch we head straight to recess for 15 minutes (and sometimes more if we are good!). We get compliments from other teachers and when we spell out the word compliment on the chalkboard we get an additional 15 minutes of recess. In PE whoever gets the most points by behaving well earns a golden shoe for the week. When we bring our shoe back to Ms. Rottier she gives us an extra five minutes of recess.

Right now we are having fun with our Science kit called "Magnets and Electricity". We have turned on a motor and a light bulb using 2 wires and a D-cell battery. We are also getting ready to pass the TAKS test. If we all pass our principal will dye her hair blue and get on the roof!

Sincerely,
Your Texas Connect Pals in Ms. Rottier's 4th Grade Class

Texas Connect Participants

 Howdy Ya’ll,

Pump it up for the mighty Forney Jackrabbits!  We come from Johnson Elementary School in Forney, Texas, which is located 22 miles east of Dallas.  Forney is known as the “Antique Capital of Texas.”  When you drive into Forney, you will see our very own Statue of Liberty and City flag.  The flag is red, white and blue, of course.

We are the smallest school in our district.  We are in Mrs. Wilson’s 4th grade class with a total of 16 students---8 girls and 8 boys.  We have a “Helping Hand” student who helps Mrs. Wilson every day by passing out papers and running errands.  Our teacher says we are hard working and have good behavior.  We are interested in many different types of things, such as books, games, and sports.  Right now, we are learning about different types of poetry and creating our own poety booklets.  Our favorite subjects are science and most of all recess!  Tuesdays and Thursdays we go to gym, and, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, we go to music.

Next year we will be part of a pilot program using laptops to access electronic textbooks.   Last night, Tuesday, March 23, our school was on Channel 11 News because we are the only school in the nation to test this.

We are really excited about being involved in Texas Connect and learning more about you.

 Dear Fellow Connects:

Hello from Lake Ridge Elementary in Cedar Hill, Texas, home of the “Tornados”.  Our school is only 2 years old.  We are in Mrs. Hawkings G/T (gifted and talented) fourth grade class.  Our school day begins at 7:50 and ends at 3:15.  There are about 350 children in our school which include Kindergarten through fourth grade.   Fourth graders are responsible for daily announcements and raising and lowering the flag.  Our favorite subjects are math, science, and reading.  There are 10 boys and 8 girls in our classroom. In addition to our usual subjects, we get to go to Music, Art, Computer Lab, and P.E. (3 times a week).  On days that we don’t have P.E., we get to go out to recess for 15 minutes after lunch.

A few weeks ago, our school started a new tradition, “Parade of Cultures”.  Each class had a different country.  We had Japan.  There was a door decorating contest and we won the grand prize….a pizza party!  Our class also had the most visitors during our evening food and music celebration and we won an ice cream party!

We are studying Greek Mythology right now, and will get to study the Middle Ages (and build our own castle) after our TAKS test.  In science we are learning about physical and chemical changes and are going to get to make “Dragon Drool”   today with cornstarch and water!

Sometimes we have readathons where we get to read all day!  We also use the portable lab several times a week which are laptop computers we bring to our classroom.  Writing is also one of our favorite things to do!

We are very excited about participating in Texas Connects and seeing how other classrooms function (new ideas for us!).

Sincerely,

Mrs. Hawkings 4th grade class

Dear Texas Connect friends,

Hello from Ms. Cox’s fourth grade class at Otis Brown Elementary.  Our school is located in Irving, Tx. and our mascot is a Bear.

Our class has nineteen students, ten boys and nine girls.  Of course we can’t forget our two class pets, Solo a hamster and Ebony a bunny rabbit.  We begin school at 7:45 with morning announcements and our morning work.  Then at 8:40 we go to specials like P.E., art and music.  Throughout the day we cover many subjects, and we even get to play games such as sparkle and spelling tic-tac-toe while we learn.  Sometimes, when we are well behaved, our teacher lets the animals roam around the room while we work.  After lunch we have recess for about thirty minutes.

In our class we have groups that we sit in, and each group has a group leader.  Being a group leader is a special privilege that we have to earn.  Group leaders get to do fun things like take their shoes off all day and write with pen.  BEAR reading time and snack time are also some of our favorites.

We look forward to learning more about every class and about Texas!

Hello Texas Connect Friends!

We are here to introduce you our class.  We are a GT class of 19 students.  We try to be the best community of students that we possibly can be.  We foster this sense of community in our classroom through our “community board,” our “community circle,” our “compliment chain,” and our “good merit” tickets.  We also get a lot of help from our counselor, Mrs. Morgan.

We value all of the learning resources that we have in our classroom.  Our favorite tools for learning are our wordbook, our library, our four computers, and our “yesterday, today, and tomorrow” bookshelves.  We like to show-off our best efforts by putting tests, quizzes, and assignments up on our wall.

Some of the interesting facts about our room are that we have two corners that we can go to if we need to get away from things or if we need to go study and we also have a life-size cardboard cutout of President George W. Bush in classroom.  He startles people who walk by our class sometimes.  We’ve had one student comeback from back surgery and we’ve switched teachers in the middle of the year.  As you can tell, it’s been an interesting year.

We can’t wait to get to know all about the other classes in Texas!

Dear TX Connect Friends,

Welcome to the Home of the Cedar Hill Long Horns and soar into action at Highlands Elementary School! Have you ever heard of Cedar Hill State Park?  We are about 5-10 minutes away from it. Our school mascot is a hawk and our school colors our blue and white.

We start our school day at 7:50 a.m. and we leave at 3:15p.m.  We have one recess in the morning for 20 minutes.  Our lunch is from 11:50 to 12:20.  There are 17 students in our class.  We have 8 boys and 9 girls. We do not wear uniforms but on Fridays we wear our spirit shirts.

Some of the interesting things going on at Highlands are safety patrol, (that is made up of third and fourth graders) a chess club, a music club, and Drama Teach.    Last Thursday we had a game night where each class put out some games and all the students could come and play some of the educational games with their parents that we play in class.   Our class loves reading, math, and spelling.  We also like to go out for recess, go to specials, and to skate in the gym.

We are excited to learn more about our new friends.

 Yours truly,

 Mrs. McDowell's 3rd grade class

Dear Texas Connect Friends,

Greetings from the mighty mighty Lion Cubs!

We are Mrs. Purchase-Koen’s 4th grade class from the exemplary Lockhart Elementary School in Houston, Texas.  Our school colors are green and white.  In our classroom we have 28 students (15 girls and 13 boys).

Do you know where Reliant Stadium home of the 2004 Superbowl and the Houston Texans is?  Yep! It is right here in Houston about 5 minutes from our school.

Our school starts at 8:00 a.m. and at 8:15 we switch for reading and go to different classes based on our reading levels.  We use a reading program called Success For All (SFA) which requires us to do that.  At 11:25 we go to ancillary and at 12:20 we have lunch.  Our ancillary schedule consists of P.E., Computer Lab, Math Lab, Music, or Science Lab.  We like Computer Lab the best.  We learn so much in there.

There is a pride point system throughout our school. We can earn 1 to 10 points, based on our behavior in ancillary.  With Lockhart pride we can say that our grade level has earned the most points for two consecutive nine week grading periods.  We had ice cream sundae celebrations for our super accomplishments.

School lets out at 3:00 p.m.  However, we stay until 4:00 or 5:00 for after school tutorial programs Monday through Thursday.  The time depends on what after school program you are in.  We are trying to master TAKS so we stay longer to brush up on our skills.  Our goal is to remain an exemplary school.

Our classroom is wonderful!  We have a great teacher, a fish named TJ, and an ivy plant that was just a seed in August and is now fully green and grown.  Not only that, we have pen pals from the state of New Jersey that we write to once a month.

We look forward to working with you,

Mrs. Koen’s 4th grade class

Dear Texas Connect Friends,

Zan San, which means hello in Chinese, from Mrs. Mitchell 3rd grade class.   We are located in the city which has the highest elevation in Texas.  Our school, Lake Ridge, is located near Joe Pool Lake in Cedar Hill, TX.  Our school has only been open two years.  However, we are the first students who have occupied our classroom because our room was vacant last year.  We have 19 students in our class.  Our class is composed of 11 boys and 8 girls.

Class begins at 7:50 every morning.  About 8:05 we have the morning announcements.  Every week we learn how to say hello in a different language. Which ever language we are learning, that is how we are told on the announcements hello or good morning.  Every teacher in the school also posts the spelling of the different language outside of their door.  The teacher also tells us hello in the language we are learning. So far, we have learned to say hello in 20 different Languages.

We go to specials at 10:05 to 10:50.  On Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday we go to gym.  We go to Music on Tuesday. Every Thursday is computer.  We are fortunate to have two specials every Thursday.  Music and computer is alternated for us on Fridays.  Every Wednesday, we go to art from 1:20-2:05.  The art class is run by the P.T.A.   Volunteer parents teach the art class to all of our classes here at Lake Ridge.

We are all hungry and ready to eat at noon.  Our lunch period is over at 12:30.  Then, our teacher takes us out to recess for 15 minutes, if the weather permits. If the weather does not permit, we get 10 minutes of free time in the class.

After Library on Fridays we have P.A.T. (preferred activity time).  We play Quizmo for homework pass, use the computers, watch a movie, and/or do center activities. We can also earn extra P.A.T. time, if we complete a task quicker than Mrs. Mitchell expects.  For instance, if she says we have 6 minutes for the class to use the restroom and we do it in 4 minutes; we earn 2 extra minutes of P.A.T time!

Preparation for dismissal begins about 3:00.  If you have behaved all day you get a sticker in your daily planner.  If you have not behaved, you receive written comments in your planner.  We all work hard to get a sticker every day.

Excitement is in the air due to Texas Connect!  We look forward to learning more about you!

 Sincerely,

Mrs. Carlotta Mitchell’s Third Grade Class

Dear Friends,

Hey ya’ll!  We are the fourth grade students in Miss Guess’s class at O.B. Johnson Elementary.  Our wonderful school is located in Forney, Texas.  Here at O.B. Johnson, we are all about K.I.D.S.:  Kind, Intelligent, Dependable Students.

Our class has 16 students.  There are 8 boys and 8 girls.  We are a very friendly bunch and like to talk all day long.  The day begins at 7:45 and we work until the bell rings at 3:15.  We look forward to recess at 2:00.  Our teacher, Miss Guess, has taught us to love math.  We also enjoy reading, language arts, science and social studies.  This semester we have made a new friend.  Miss Koning is able to help all students in the fourth grade and we have enjoyed her time with us.

This school year we have been able to participate in many activities.  During the first part of the year, we created our very own salt maps.  Our maps were colored to show the different regions in Texas.  In the month of November, we completed a unit on Native Americans.  The class divided into two tribes:  Tonkawa Tribe and Karankawa Tribe.  We were able to research each tribe and present our information to the entire fourth grade.

Right now, we are working hard to prepare for the TAKS test.  It’s not too far away and we want to do our best.  We are so excited about Texas Connect and can’t wait to meet everyone!  Talk to ya’ll soon!

Hello Texas Connect Friends,

We are the 4th grade class of Ms. Scogin!  We go to J.O. Davis Elementary in Irving, Texas.  There are 18 of us in here – 8 boys and 10 girls!  Our day begins at 7:45 and ends at 2:45.  For the morning announcements we have an awesome broadcast over the television.  Our 5th grade students are the anchors for the broadcast!

There is a lot going on here at Davis.  We use Thinking Maps!  They are different graphic organizers to help us use our brains!  We have Alpha Smarts here!  They are keyboards that we can use to type papers and practice our typing! (Our teacher always makes us use the home row keys!)  We just sent home our animals (African Dwarf Frogs, Fiddler Crabs, and Snails).  They were our Science kit for the last six weeks!

We have to wear uniforms, except on Fridays we get to wear our Bruin shirts and jeans!  Buster Bruin is our mascot!  The students and teachers have id badges.  We use our badges to get lunch from the cafeteria and to check out books from the library.  If we lose our id badge, we have to pay $2 for a new one!  Yikes!

Our class goes to specials from 8:55 to 9:50 each day!  This gives our teacher a chance to get papers graded!  We are on a five day rotation, Day 1 – Music, Days 2, 4, and 5 – PE, and Day 3 Art.  After our specials it is time for our snacks!  Our super teacher lets us pop popcorn in the microwave!  We go to the computer lab on Tuesdays at 1:30 and the library on Fridays at 1:45.  We get to be Book Buddies with an awesome 2nd grade class.  Every Thursday at 1:30, we get to read books with our buddy!  After lunch each day we have silent reading!

We have recess for 15 minutes, usually everyday!  The requirements for recess are behaving in specials and having all of our homework turned in!  Our teacher loves to do crosswords at recess, while she is watching us!

We are currently reading Charlotte’s Web in reading!  We just love Wilbur!  The school has a compliment program.  You can get compliments for behaving in the halls, specials, being on time to school, and wearing our uniforms!  We get cool prizes like cookies, pizza, and other yummy stuff!  We have 167 compliments as of today! J  If all the students in our class are here on time and have all our homework turned in our teacher gives us a letter.  We are spelling out SURPRISE.  When surprise is spelled, she brings us a yummy treat!  She said the next time we spell surprise; she will bring us Krispy Kreme doughnuts!

We look forward to working on this project with all of you!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Dear Friends,

Hello from the fourth graders at Manor Elementary. We are located about 15 minutes east of Austin. Our school has about 472 students.

We have two teachers we switch classes with, Mrs. Boswell and Mr.
Woelfel. There are 15 students in Mrs. Boswell's homeroom and 16 in Mr.
Woelfel's homeroom. Mrs. Boswell teaches us language arts, reading, and social studies and Mr. Woelfel teaches us math and science. Out of the 31 students 16 are girls and 15 are boys. Our day begins at 7:40 with announcements given by fifth graders. The day ends at 2:40. We have lunch from 11:15 to 11:45. After lunch, we walk out to a field, walk or run a lap, and then have 15 minutes of recess.

We have music/art alternating with PE on A days and B days. Music is one semester and art the other. We also alternate library and computer time, going one week to computer, then to library the next.

We like to share stories we write on our own. When we share we write our name on the author's chair. At the end of the year, there will be a drawing and someone will get to take the chair home.

It's been fun hearing about your schools, and we look forward to learning more about the schools in other areas.

Dear Texas Connect friends,

Greetings from Ms. Smith's fourth grade classes at Manor Elementary.  Our school is located right down Hwy. 290 in Manor, TX.  A 20 minute drive from Austin, and we are known as the Mustangs.

Ms Smith teaches two classes of Reading/Language Arts/Soc. Studies at different times.  Her first period class has eight girls and seven boys.  Second period has nine girls and six boys.   We begin school at 7:30 with morning announcements, U.S. pledge, Texas pledge, and a moment of silence presented by our fifth grade students.  Our day ends at 2:45.  We have Mrs. Berry teaching us Math/Science.  We spend 2 hours in Reading and Math each morning.  At our school we are on a block schedule meaning on A-days, we have 45 minutes of Music and Soc. Studies.  On B-days, we have 45 minutes of PE and Science.

Lunch is at 11:15 followed by 15 minutes of recess.  If our teachers aren’t paying attention to their watches, we get another 5-10 minutes.

Every student in the school has an opportunity to receive "High Flyers" (which is like money), for being observed by teachers or anyone on campus as being courteous to others and good behavior.  At the "High Flyer" store you can buy all kinds of cool merchandise.   All the students’ grades 1-5 are very active in Accelerated Reading.  Reading so many AR books and passing the test, you can earn AR money to shop at the AR store.  All these incentives and wonderful teachers help us to work had at being successful in our learning.

Looking forward to hearing more about your school and all the things you do!

Ms. Williams’ 3rd Grade Class

Hello Fellow Texans!

We are the students of Mrs. Leonard's 2003-2004 third grade class at Lockhart Elementary School in Houston, Texas.  There are 16 students in the class - 8 boys and 8 girls.  A typical school day is from 7:45am to 3:00pm, with a 30-minute luuch beginning at 11:40am.  Since January, we have also had after-school tutorials from 3-4pm.  In the beginning we focused on Reading for the TAKS and Stanford 10 tests.  Now that those are over, our focus has switched to Math.

In school, we enjoy participating in learning games, activities and contests.  We really enjoy science exploratory activities because they challenge us to think about the world around us.

This is our first time participating in Texas Connect.  We are looking forward to sharing and learning about other students around Texas.

Until next time,

Danielle, Jaylon, Kaylynn, Jasmine, Bre'Shell, Gerald, Christopher, Dezmond, Derrick, Mercy, Jesicka, D.J., Darryl, Brandon, Darrius, Bethany

Hola! friends from Texas Connect,

We are the Fourth Grade Bilingual Class in Sally B. Elliott Elementary School. There are 11 boys and 9 girls in our class. We are located in Irving, Texas, near the Texas Stadium, the house of the Cowboys.

Our day starts at 7:30 am and ends at 2:45 pm.  We start with the pledges, which are said by  a diffferent class every week and the announcements by the principals, teachers or staff. Then, we have a moment of silence to pray, reflect about our behavior, meditate or organize our ideas. Next, we have DEAR time (Drop Everything and Read). After this, we start class.

Our favorite subjects are Math, P.E and Recess. In P.E we get points for good behavior and following directions, and at the end of the week, the class with more points gets the “Golden Shoe”. If we get the Golden Shoe we get to dance in the classroom for 5 min. During Recess we like to play soccer most of the times.

A reward we have in the classroom for good behavior is that the best  table of the week gets to eat lunch in the classroom on Friday and we can play in the computers.

We are like a family. We get along pretty well although we have very different personalities. There are all types of students in our classroom.  We have comedians (Andres, Inmar, Juan and Eric), dancers ( Denisse, Eduardo, Maria, Diana, Alexis, Jesus,Isabel, Eloisa), artists (Edwin, Rosi, Jeancarlos, Brian, Jose and Daniel),  singers (Eloisa and Andres),  and sports people (Daniel, Andres, Eduardo, Eric, Jeancarlos, Jose, Brian, Jesus, Edwin).

We are very excited to participate in Texas Connect and learn more about all of you.

Sincerely yours,

Miss.  Ramirez’s class

Dear Texas Connect Friends,

“What’s up?”  We are students at Johnson Elementary, in Forney Texas.  We are a small town east of Dallas, but growing quickly.

In the middle of town, we have a town square and in this square, we have a park called Hamblen Park.  In this park, there’s an old train caboose.  We have many trains that pass through our little town each day.  Because of our quickly growing population, our school district has opened a new elementary school for the past four years and will open Blackburn Elementary next year.

Our school is Johnson Elementary and our teacher’s name is Mrs. Woods.  We have sixteen boys and girls in our room, (8 and 8).   Our day begins at 7:45.  We have ten minutes to work on Mountain Math before we go to either P.E. or Music.  After returning from Specials, we have Math and English.  In Math, we have been studying fractions and in English, we are creating a poetry booklet.  Then off to lunch we go!

We have our AR reading time after lunch.  Our class has read some novels this year.  Our favorites have been:
“Joey Pigsza”
“Dirty, Stinky Sneakers”
“My Life in Dog Years”
“Shiloh”
“Walk Two Moons”

We earn points by reading and taking tests.  Our P.T.O. sponsors an AR store where we trade in points for prizes.  At the end of the year, the fourth grade teachers rent jump houses and have a hot dog cook-out for students who earn 50 points or more for the year.

After Reading, we have either Social Studies or Science.  We have read about all the great Texas battles, which lead to Texas Independence and Statehood.  We will travel soon to watch a program about Col. Travis and Susanna Dickinson.

We think that we did very well on the TAKS Writing Test, but we won’t know until the end of the year.  We are busy with practice and tutoring for the upcoming TAKS Reading and Math Test.  Yikes!

We are happy to have all of our Texas Connect Friends!

Cheers,

Mrs. Woods Fourth Graders

Dear Friends,

How are you?   We're in fourth grade at Liestman Elementary in the Alief Independent School District in Houston.  Our school colors are red and silver.  A furry little chipmunk is our mascot.  Ms. Ginyard is the principal and Mr. Sekal is the assistant principal.

We have 25 students in our class.  There are 15 boys and 10 girls.  We are an extremely gifted class!  Our favorite subject is LUNCH!  We are really good at it.  Our class is made up of many different cultures.  We have set a class goal to make a perfect score on the TAKS test.  We always want to learn more each and every day.

Our school day begins at 7:45 (which is way too early!).  We prepare for class and then watch the morning announcements anchored by the principals.  The L - TV (Liestman Television) crew are a group of selected fourth grade students who were "hired" for the job. After listening to the principals talk, we say the pledges (United States and Texas), the CHIPPER affirmation (characteristics of Liestman students), and finally a moment of silence.  Before and after announcements we have Reading Renaissance Time.  Everybody in the school is either reading or being read to.

At 9:20 everyday we go to different Specials - PE, music, art, tech time, and CCC lab (computers).  At 11:00, we switch to our reading class and do not leave until lunch time - which is at 1:00.

Our school day ends at 2:55 p.m.  We are dismissed at 2:45.  First, car riders are dismissed, next bus riders, daycare, and last but not least, walkers and kids that go to the YMAC!  Dismissal is the best part about school.  You know why?  Because that's when it ends!

We are eager to learn more about other schools around Texas to see if they are as great as our school!

Ms. Ezeilo's 11:00 Class

Nai Yai,

That means hi my good friends in the Philippines. We are in Ms.Ezeilo 4th grade class which consists of 11 girls and 10 boys. We have an odd number of students in our class. You should already know that equals 21 kids (duh!)

We have two excellent, smart, handsome, and pretty teachers. One is named Mr. Brown, our math and science teacher. He makes math sooo easy because he goes over every answer if you don't understand it. Our other teacher's name is Ms.Ezeilo. She teaches S.S (social studies), language arts, and writing. You'd wish that you had our two marvelous teachers.

If you are wondering where this mysterious letter came from, it's from your average school, Liestman Elementary in Houston, Texas. Our school's mascot is a cute, furry, caramel color, little chipmunk. For some reason our school's color is red.

Our doors open at 7: 15 so children can start their education (well, don't you think.) Patrols have to get here at 7: 30 because they help the staff. (You already know the staff has a lot of work). We do different activities for specials. We go there for two days in a row. Everyone goes to P.E, music, CCC lab, art and, tech time. We have more than 800 students in our whole school. Everyone in this school does A.R (Accelerated Reader), including teachers. We go to lunch at 1:00(which is basically our second favorite school subject.)Our favorite subject is RECESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We start our school day early but we end it with excitement! We have Reading Renaissance (everyone in the school reads or is read to) in the morning and in the afternoon. Everyday we have to read at least 60 minutes so we can get use to reading for long periods of time. When we are dismissed, we are divided into different lines (car rider, bus rider, walkers, and YMCA). When we leave school, it is not over. You know why? Because we have homework!

We are eager to learn more about your schools!
