Greetings form Mrs. England's Second graders at Lake Ridge Elementary! Hello everyone! We are really excited about participating in this project and getting to know other children around Texas. Our school is new this year, and we are looking forward to this project becoming a tradition for us that will last for many years. So that you will know a little bit about us, there are seventeen students in our class. We have eight girls and nine boys. Our school day begins at eight o'clock and and ends at 3:15. We get fifteen minutes of recess, and were very sad when we heard that other schools got as much as an hour! Please tell our principal bout that. We would LOVE to have longer recesses. The neatest thing about our school is the view from our classroom window. You can see Lake Joe Pool and sometimes all the way into Arlington. It is really a pretty sight. We look forward to getting to know you all better. Your friends from Cedar Hill Angela England Lake Ridge Elementary Second Grade March 31, 2003 Texas Connect http://www.irvingisd.net/txconnect Dear Texas Connect Participants, My name is Cheryl McKnight. We have great teachers and a great principal. On our TAAS test last year we had 94% passing. That was so cool. And if we pass the next one, our principal, Ms. Sailors will take us to AstroWorld. This is Piney Point Elementary School in Houston, Texas. We are going to talk about our class. We have 13 kids in our class. In class we do reading, math, spelling, language arts, and science. Our favorite activity is recess. The boys play football and the girls play tag. When it rains we play inside. We play computer games, board games, and draw. In Math we do Mad Minutes. Today we did the practice snapshot math test. We’re looking forward to reading your letters, too. Sincerely, Mr. Cassata’s 3rd Grade Class April 3, 2003 Dear Texas Friends, We are from Houston, Texas. Here in our 5th grade class our teacher helps us stay focused on our work. Our class has the most choir students out the whole 5th grade. Our class almost always gets to go to what we call the panther paw party. The panther paw party is a celebration for classes that get the most panther paws for the month. You get panther paws for being quiet in the halls and doing other good things. Our class is the best thing to happen to us. Your Texas Friends April 3, 2003 Dear Texas Friends, We are 5th Graders in Houston, Texas. On Monday we have Reading, Wednesday Math and on Friday we do both Reading and Math. Most of our classmates like Math because we like to solve the problems. In our classroom we have letters that spell R.E.S.T. If the teacher erases a letter it is five minutes less of our recess. We only go out on Thursdays and Fridays. We think that is what is very special about our school. Thank you, Mr. Gutierrez’s 5th Grade April 3, 2003 Hello, How are you doing? We are going to tell you some things about Piney Point Elementary. Our school is in Houston, Texas and we are in Ms. Gonzales’ 4th grade class. Some kids in our class are in Safety Patrol. These are some of the exciting things that we do in our school and our class. Thank you for reading about our daily life in our Exemplary school. Students come to me at 8:30 and go back to their home rooms at 2:40. Lunch is with our grade levels. Second and Third graders enjoy a thirty minute recess right after lunch. Fourth grade gets a twenty minute recess at the end of the day. Tuesday, I have fourth grade--three girls and two boys. Wednesday, I have third grade--nine girls and four boys. Thursday, I have second grade--four girls and six boys. This year, we are doing research on Texas and early Texas life. We have enjoyed reading the Laura Ingalls Wilder chapter books. We also take walking field trips around our town to the many historical sites and have traveled to nearby Nacogdoches to visit a pioneer village, Milllard's Crossing, and to see other historical landmarks. We are making family history books that reflect the genealogical history of our families. Many of us have early Texas roots! Last fall, we did a photography project where we entered the photo contest in our town's Sassafras Festival Our pictures illustrated many of the historical sites in San Augustine. We are excited about participating in this project and are looking forward to learning about other school and students! Dear Texas Connect Partners, Welcome from Mr. Lytner's fourth grade class at Elliott Elementary School in Irving, Texas! Our mascot is the eagle, and our school colors are blue and white. We have 22 students in our class - 13 girls and 9 boys (the girls like the fact that they've outnumbered the boys all year long!). Our day begins at 8:00 am, and ends at 3:00 pm. We have specials classes every day (PE, art, or music), with TWO specials classes on Tuesday (art and PE), and every other Friday (extra music and PE). We have lunch from 12:15 - 12:45, and up to 15 minutes for recess after lunch. Our school recognizes students with good behavior and good organization habits. We call these students self managers. We have five in our class. They wear special ID badges and sometimes have special parties. We've gone on two neat field trips this year - one to a place called Native Lands (with lots of outdoor exhibits), and the other to the Science museum in Fort Worth. We got to see an IMAX movie there too! We love living in Irving! We are so close to many cool places in this city between Dallas and Fort Worth (Six Flags Over Texas/Hurricane Harbor, Irving Mall, The Ballpark in Arlington - go Rangers, and the Science Museums and zoos in both Dallas and Fort Worth, to name a few). We have been enjoying hearing from so many of you this week, and look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks. Sincerely, Kayla, Angela, Lillian, Steven, Brook, Stacey, Olivia, Nicholas, Suheylee, Michelle, Shane, Jincy, Jesus, Kylie, Morgan, Erika, Jordan, Annie, Draylin, Jared, Kylee, Chance, and Mr. Lytner Hey, what's up! This Team takes care of families in need in our community. if we raise $800.00, all the teachers will dye their hair red, white, and blue. Ha! Ha! It's spring and the bluebonnets are everywhere, including in our classroom. Our teacher has taught us how to make bluebonnets out of plastic soda rings and wooden skews. You would really enjoy this project. We are looking forward to participating in this Texas Connect project with all of you! Sincerely, Ms. Smith's 4th grade class Manor Elementary April 7, 2003 Dear Texas Connect Students, Hi! How are you? We are the students in Mr. Robertson's class. We also have an assistant teacher named Mrs. Kosik. This is a multiage class made up of 10 third graders and 13 fourth graders. We're at Pelham Elementary School, in Pelham, New Hampshire. There are 38 classes in our school and about 850 students. Our school is brand new this year. It is much bigger than our old school. There are 12 boys and 11 girls in our class. We have tables instead of desks. Tennis balls were put on the legs of our chairs so they won't screech on the floor or scratch the floor. We have lots of fun books to read in our room and we have a word wall, too. There are 4 laptops and 3 computers in the room. Our school also has a technology lab that we get to use sometimes. If you arrive after 8:50 AM you're late. We have a half hour recess right after our half hour lunch. Lunch and recess happen between 11:30 and 12:30 every day. We get ready to go home at 2:55 and get dismissed at 3:05. We go to school for 180 days a year. We still have snow. Last Friday we had a snow day. We'll be getting out of school on June 19, 2003 because we have three snow days to make-up. Right now we are studying volcanoes. We think Mr. Robertson is a great teacher. We are looking forward to finding out more about all of you.

We do a lot of things like projects. We studied the Iditarod, a race in Alaska. That is a race with dogs and people in a sled. It is risky but they do it. Sometimes we see TV in our classroom while we eat lunch Ms. Keaton’s 3rd Graders April 3, 2003 Dear Friends, We are a 3rd Grade Class and we are from Piney Point Elementary School in Houston, Texas. We are Ms. Mallona’s 3rd Grade Class from Piney Point Elementary. In our school they open the doors at 7:00 o’clock. We come that early if we want to have breakfast. We have to wait in the line to get our breakfast cards. When we finish eating breakfast we go to the hard top to wait for our teacher to come. We have to be in our seats at 7:45. The first thing we do in class is our journals. Then we do Reading and English. Then we go to special classes like Music and P.E. We learn Math and practice Handwriting after lunch. We have learned a lot this year about fractions, multiplication, and division. What we like the most is recess. At the end of the day we get our backpacks and go to our houses. Your friends, Ms. Mallona’s 3rd Grade April 3, 2003 Hi, We are Ms. Outlaw’s 4th grade class from Piney Point Elementary in Houston, Texas. Our school begins on August 20th and it ends May 30th. It starts at 7:45 and ends 3:00. We have a Science Lab and two Computer Labs in our school. We have Monday Madness Clubs for doing things like Knitting, Bilingual Spelling, Sports, Fitness Festival, and we do performances and have a choir. We have a program called Accelerated Reader where you take tests on books you read and get prizes. We have a lot of contests like helping poor people by bringing pennies and the class that has the most pennies has a movie and popcorn party. We have special occasions like Texan Day where people dress up like cowboys and cowgirls. We do that when the rodeo comes to our city. We also celebrate Cinco de Mayo and have a big carnival with food and mariachi music. We have panther paws which the classes earn by being good and quiet. If you have 2 panther paws for a day your class goes to recess. The assistant principal gathers every class’s panther paws every month. Then if you have the most you get a party. And that’s what Piney Point is all about. Ms. Outlaw’s 4th Graders April 3, 2003 Hi, Texas Connect Friends,
Do you know why Piney Point Elementary School is the best? Any ideas? I guess I will tell you. Piney Point is the best school because we get early dismissal on Fridays. Another reason is that we learn everything we need and the teachers help us learn. Our teacher is the best mathematics teacher. We learn a lot in Math, Reading, Social Studies, and Science. The best time of day is when we go to recess. The boys play soccer and the girls jump rope. When it’s raining we play computer games, checkers, and some other board games. We look forward to reading your letters Sincerely, Mr. Mosquera’s 4th grade class April 4, 2003 Dear Kids, Our school is Piney Point Elementary in Houston, Texas and it is very big. We have about 1000 students here. We have a big class, too, and we learn a lot of things. Our teacher is showing us how to do compositions in Spanish and in English. We are going to do a science project for Science Fair. We have fish, turtles, bugs, and worms. We have a big cafeteria. Our library has a lot of books. Our Assistant Principal is very tall. And we have a big park. Your friends, Ms. Palacin’s 3rd Grade Class April 3, 2003 Hello! Our school is in Houston, Texas and our school name is Piney Point Elementary. Our class has the highest points in Accelerated Reader. We are good in Math and Spelling. We love recess and we are funny sometimes. We have students in our one class from many countries. The countries are India, Cambodia, Honduras, Angola, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, United States, Mexico, and Philippines. That’s nine countries for the seventeen students in our class. We all get along pretty well. And we have the best class ever.Ms. Welch’s ESL 3rd Grade April 3, 2003 Dear Friends, We are 3rd graders at Piney Point Elementary School in Houston, Texas. We go to school starting at 7:00 am. When we get there, we go to eat breakfast and then we go to the classroom. Our favorite ancillary class is Computer because after we do keyboarding we can play games. When the ancillary time is over, we go to class and we do language arts and we write. We like recess a lot because we play with our friends. When we finish playing Ms. Mallona comes to us for ESL lessons so we can learn English. Then we study Math and other things with our teacher, Mr. Rendon. Later we go home at 3:00. We would like to learn more about your class. Sincerely, Mr. Rendon’s 3rd Grade Class
